Sorry, Jess. I just use my parents as a Republican gauge--they're pretty typical. They loved and voted for W (although the shine is coming off him in my mom's eyes). And, they both really dig Frist. Of course, he is their senator, but I still think they're a fairly accurate gauge.

I wish Barbara Boxer or Barak Obama were being talked about as viable candidates. Though really, I'd settle for a groundswell of McCain support among the centrist Republicans.

Obama has said repeatedly that he will not run in '08 and, this may be naive, I believe him.

I think Hillary is the Dem's default candidate right now, but I sure hope they find somebody else. Nothing the Republicans could do would mobilize their base more than Hillary. The Right seems to think she's the antichrist.

No, no, no. The early candidate never lasts. Too much time to dig the dirt, for them to be live on television yelling like a crazy person.

ETA: By which I mean, I hope people don't start whispering now about candidates they actually LIKE, but start drawing attention to people who probably can't win the nomination-- Hilary Clinton, say.
