In defense of the Fratcoustic Strum Dudes:
When I was in college I saw A LOT of Dave Matthews and Ben Harper shows before they took off all crazy like (well, Ben never got the kind of airplay that DM did - but he does have a fanatic following). They were great shows and great performers when they first started - period. I think they both ventured off into lameville. (Harper's got all spooky religious as well). But then again, my taste in music changed a lot as well.
I can still enjoy my favorites from both of them every once in a while.

Listening to Harper talk about instruments is pretty darn amazing, actually. I saw him interviewed by David Byrne on West 54th and Byrne was just in awe of his collection and range of knowledge.
Is that an official sub-genre yet? Does it have a name?

I used to like Dave Matthews until a local "adult alternative" station started playing way too much of him. Acoustic! Live! Solo! All Dave, All the Time! And it started to all sound the same to me.

Well, by this classification I can see why you'd include Elliot and Jeff. Though there's a lot of indiepop that would qualify, that has nothing to do with the Fratcoustics.
And Whiny Sensitive Boys also starts to include lots of the emo bands as well.
Perhaps WSB is the uber-genre under which the Strum Dudes and emo bands fall?
There is no emo girl band that I know of. Is there the possibility of one? People expect girls to be emo already so I think they can't qualify....hmmm.
