Whiny Sensitive Boys.
Well, by this classification I can see why you'd include Elliot and Jeff. Though there's a lot of indiepop that would qualify, that has nothing to do with the Fratcoustics.

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

And Whiny Sensitive Boys also starts to include lots of the emo bands as well.
Perhaps WSB is the uber-genre under which the Strum Dudes and emo bands fall?
There is no emo girl band that I know of. Is there the possibility of one? People expect girls to be emo already so I think they can't qualify....hmmm.

I was just thinking that The Indigo Girls are proto-StrumDudes.
I love my guitar guys, some more than others, but I loves them.
The Indigo Girls are proto-StrumDudes.
Interesting. But they certainly don't qualify as emo and they can't go under WSB so that as the main genre under which Strum Dudes falls is out.
The more I think of it the whole definition of emo revolves around it being from a guy's perspective.
Also - the early fan following of BH and DMB came out of the neo-Deadhead and Phish crowd. The jam-band angle has to be taken into consideration in classification.

Okay, then, Mopey Dudes, or Mope Rock, or Annoying Mopey Whiney Dudes Who Keep Telling Me My Body Is a Wonderland Until I Want to Smack Them Silly.
But I don't think that would fit on te category sign at Tower.

hides his Belle and Sebastian and Sarah Records from Lyra. Shit, now Jim E-T can see it. Throws an LP cozy over the lot...
All the nice singer songwriter guitar boys are belong to me.
DX, I am about to go to the post office to send you Hec's and Tina's fantabulous CDs. Keep an eye out for them.
Once again, I think I'm the only person writing comments on the liner notes.
Dude, I *love* Belle and Sebastian, and Elliot Smith. Don't like Jeff Buckley's voice in general, but I like his cover of "Hallelujah."
It's only John Meyer and the other fratcoustics who have earned my ire.
