Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

If I were farther behind, I wouldn't bother watching, but it's the only ep on my Tivo, so, well, completeness.

I respect Beharie's desire to leave the show, but damnit, there is NO SHOW WITHOUT ABBY MILLS.

I always saw it as Abby's show with Crane as her sidekick.

YES YES YES.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I need to stop spending my weekend dismally mourning a TV show, dammit! Especially given that I think it's entirely fair to call it nothing but a shadow of its Season 1 brilliance, AND to say that any number of fanfics, including mine, stayed truer to the characters and premise and therefore deserve to be my headcanon rather than what actually happened.

I did get in touch with my one friend that I was worried about, and we're exchanging grumpy texts about our sense of betrayal, so that makes me feel a bit better.

Another thing that made me see red was Abby and Jenny's father turning out to know about the supernatural. So despite knowing the true state of affairs, he let his wife rot in an asylum until she died and his daughters be placed in foster care.

Yep. It's just an inexplicable level of bad storytelling all around.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Wait, WHAT. Jesus, that is horrible. Nope, not gonna even finish the season.

I admit I'll probably go back and watch S1, because that was good stuff.

As far as I'm concerned, the good things this season were limited to Jenny and Joe becoming a couple, Pandora as the main antagonist, and Ichabod's new hairdo. (Tom Mison should keep that whether or not the show returns!)

I wasn't even that much of a fan of Jenny and Joe, because it felt like they were taking screen time that could've been used for Crane and Abbie together. 20-20 hindsight, I can see that it was just another part of them trying to make it more of an ensemble show since they knew Nicole would be leaving. Of course, they had to go and kill Joe too, which ALSO made me angry.

FOX had better cancel that mess. I don't want to see its shuffling zombie remnant as I'm going about my business online next fall.

Speaking of 20-20 hindsight, I wish I'd stopped watching as soon as I found out that Orlando Jones had been pushed off the show rather than choosing to jump to different projects. That was just such a clear sign that TPTB hadn't really gotten the message with what went wrong in S2 and what elements and characters they needed to keep. Plus, he's outspoken and opinionated and likes to interact with fans...something a healthy show would value. I would so love to get him drunk at the bar at a con one of these days just to get all the behind-the-scenes dirt on how the show went so awry.

And, frankly, an excuse to add another white guy to the cast.
