I don't like vampires. I'm gonna take a stand and say they're not good.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

My original copy had bad audio in that one scene towards the end where he takes the baddies out

I'm not sure if it was your copy or not. I couldn't understand what Ianto said at the end of that scene. It sounded like "Pray you survive" but I wouldn't swear on it.

I found the fate of the alien horrifically sad. And agree that even if they'd sedated it, I don't think they could have gotten it anywhere they could have helped it.

Loved Rhys in this episode. Do not understand where Jack's crush on Gwen came from unless it's because she seems to be the only peson not crushing on him. That, or it's fallout from Gwen refusing to give up on Jack coming back to life the last episode of season 1. But whatever it is, I shouldn't have to work this hard to make it sensical.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I don't think they did enough in S1 (though they could have, in the final ep) to support the S2 Jack/Gwen whatever.

I think it was "Pray they survive."

Art Crawl!!!

I love Ianto as Mr. Steed. I had no idea.

Also - I think that they are over-pushing the Gwen/Jack and agree that it kind of came out of nowhere. (Plus, Gwen/Jack hurts Ianto and Rhys - NOT GOOD.)

The leviathan made me cry. Poor thing.

They did way too good a job with it's vocalizations.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

(Plus, Gwen/Jack hurts Ianto and Rhys - NOT GOOD.)

Well, it hurts Rhys. I think Ianto is more inclined to understand Jack's polyamorous perspective.

Art Crawl!!!

I don't know - his reaction at the end didn't seem. . . like a non-reaction. (So unclear - but I felt like it was a bit of a jolt for him.)

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Life on Mars...in a nutshell. (No real spoilers for the show, but a generally good representation, hee.)

Perhaps, and while it seems the boundaries of their relationship are still unformed, I think it's a tad unfair to expect serial monogamy from Jack -- it's nothing but an abstract concept to him, one which he's made clear he finds quaint and curious.

I've found it clear that Gwen and Ianto represent different things to Jack, and indeed, the dichotomy of his affections is something I've seen in the few functional polyamorous relationships I've observed. Jack lives a bit vicariously through Gwen's "normal domestic life." It's something part of him wants, but can never have. It's not in his character to have a life outside of the madness and adventure. If he weren't with Torchwood, he'd be off with the Doctor, having another sort of adventure.

He's romanticized Gwen's relationship with Rhys, and consequently, he both wants to protect it and is jealous of it -- he wants her to have her life and he also wants her, but he knows full well having the latter means giving up on the former, which he doesn't want to do.

So, yeah. Jack's seeming inconsistency doesn't seem inconsistent at all to me.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I can totally see that, BUT - I have to make that leap on my own. There's not enough subtext to support the text, so to speak.

eta Or at not enough backstory in this case.
