Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can see that Jack might have those feelings. I just haven't seen them show me how.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I'm hoping the Jack/Gwen thing will make sense eventually. Though I'm not counting on it by any means. But this is a show where hot snarky guys make out on a regular basis, so maybe if I close my eyes and wish hard enough, all my dreams will come true.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

So, yeah. Jack's seeming inconsistency doesn't seem inconsistent at all to me.

That's pretty much how I see it too. Jack's love for Gwen, based so largely on her being a normal human being with things like empathy and a boyfriend, is un-actable on sexually. It leaves Mr. Libido pining like an Austen heroine. I find the whole thing delicious.

Is Auntie coming to iTunes? [link]

Even less reason for me to ahem Doctor Who.

Please let that be US iTunes too!

Dead Ringers does Torchwood. I think they're a touch unkind, and a bit brash. But I wish I could have read those name badges.

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Deadringers

and now John Barrowman's extra swishiness of his trenchcoat and declaration of his bright shining teeth in whatever it was I'd watched (Torchwood Confidential?) makes total sense.

Owen: "Annoying"

Ianto: "Dull and annoying"

Thanks, Invisible! I'd only managed to catch Gwen's. Yes, more ungentle with the show than I would be.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Hmm. I loved loved loved Ianto as badass, although I do wonder why he was only the officeboy before all this. I rewound to check, and the best I could make out was that he said, "Pray there are five," and I couldn't figure out what it meant.

I HATE the Jack/Gwen thing, partly because it feels unsupported and partly because Gwen seems to be dangerously close to Mary-Suedom for me. But even more do I hate the Tosh yearning. That feels supported, but makes me cringe to the extent I didn't want to watch. Seriously, Tosh! GET THE MESSAGE! Please! You're hurting me!

As for the alien... er. I don't quite see how Owen knew how to euthanize it (one dose sedates, but if that doesn't work just double the dose and you get death? With unknown alien physiology? Sounds like zat-gun convenience to me). I suppose Torchwood was trapped and endangered by the thrashing, but that was all very confusingly shot. I don't know, the whole thing was weird to me. Gwen/Rhys was lovely, and I adore Ianto. Otherwise, eh.

I thought he threw togethter a bunch of poisons (not the sedative they were using) because he knew the tranq wouldn't work.
