Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Of special note for Hayden, the note we got from our proof reader this afternoon:

By the way, it’s been a sheer pleasure to work on your book. I’ve long been a music junkie and was proud to correct a misspelling of “Baba O’Riley” in the MS. I was pleased that you mentioned one of my all-time faves, The Good Earth by The Feelies. Also, my dad, too, had a copy of Whipped Cream & Other Delights, just as your reviewer said he would.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

In case people were complaining about the lack of fun songs about necrophilia, Of Montreal has delivered with "Chrissy Kiss the Corpse".

My favorite is still Voltaire's "Dead Girls Like Me."

Which reminds me . . . . Don't I owe someone a Voltaire CD?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Voltaire recorded music? Why the hell didn't he write the music for Candide himself?

Voltaire is a New York Jewish goth kid and animator.

BTW, I'm listening to the new RUSH album right now, aifg! All covers, so we don't have to put up with their deteriorating writing skills. "Summertime Blues" particularly rocks.

Great, great song.

Was it Teppy?

VH1 has made me a happy, happy goth. The VH1 "Classic" channel has bowed to viewer pressure and now has an hour-long segment called "Alternative"; if they were honest, it would be named "Videos from back when the show 120 Minutes was good". Currently, it's airing at 11PM EST on Wednesday and Thursday, then from 11AM-1PM EST on Sundays. So far, they've shown videos by The Cure, The Mission, The Smiths, Sisters of Mercy, Concrete Blonde, and *more* Cure (plus stuff by bands I don't really care about, but don't make me lunge for the remote).

In the Bay Area, the new Cure record is #3 on the charts.

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Hec, did I tell you that I went by your publisher's booth at BEA and asked them about it? I didn't spill that I knew you. (This is known as "creating buzz among the sales force" as in "Yeah, people at BEA were coming up and ASKING ABOUT IT!")

Well done! Sneaky and productive. We like that.

I think it was me, as a matter of fact.
