Firefly Spoilers
Discussion of all Firefly episodes, including "Trash", "The Message", "Heart of Gold", and any movie news.
Knowing is one thing - caring and being effective are two others.
At this point, I believe River can know anything and everything.
"Safe" would tend to contradict that. Unless she liked the idea of doing a stunning Joan of Arc imitation...
What I was meaning to say is that it is not a great leap for me to believe she has flashes of precognition; I very deliberately used "can" rather than "does." Does she know everything? I don't think so. But I think she can see what's coming, what's already been, etc. But she doesn't see it completely, and she doesn't have any control over what she sees.
All interpretation, of course, and something about which I'm willing to just say, "Okay, you think I'm wrong, cool. There isn't particular evidence to support my perception fully. It's just what I think."
My personal take is that she's clairvoyant and empathic/telepathic, but not precognitive. However, since the former two senses result in her getting information long before other people become aware of situations via their standard 5, it gives the impression of seeing the future when she's actually just hyper-aware of what's going on in the present.
My take is that Joss probably doesn't care.
I think ita's is the most sensible take here, and Matt's is the one the actual show supports best, and mine is based on pure intuitive making stuff up.
This is a disjointed emotional response, but there you go. I just watched Justice League Unlimited, and every time Vixen (voiced by GT) speaks, I get a pang of Zoe-sympathy.
Blue Sun in Serenity 2.
ETA: if it happens, duh.
Okay, I'd never read the movie this way:
Whedon fashions a story line that slyly mirrors his own efforts to keep his short-lived show Firefly alive. Serenity focuses on the struggles of a ragtag band of outsiders trying desperately to get a high-tech videotape played on intergalactic television. The Alliance will do anything to keep it off the air, including murdering the only independent broadcaster in the 'verse. The film, right down to the tagline ("You can't stop the signal"), is one big middle finger to Fox TV executives.
You didn't? It's one of the things I found most hilarious. Like, Mal needs to put the Signal out on the internet so people will pass the word and see the mpeg of truth.
The only thing that was missing was the crazy chicks with the intergalactic variety ad.
YOU CANT STOP THE ANVIL.
