Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Because books.

That was Denise.

"Signal to noise ratio" was the part that pinged me. Although I still don't think Frank meant any harm by it. Zen said all the talk had turned her *off* the show, too. (I think. Zen, was that you?)

vanguard of the socialist Hollywood liberal homosexualist agenda

You can get a sense about how many people are posting about it, but even then, if you're not actually counting, it's easy to get distracted by people who are posting a lot, or posting passionately, or whatever. And god knows how many people have an opinion but haven't posted it in this thread.

It makes one wonder who feels what way. Which can ultimately only be determined by voting.

But I always wonder if the average reader/lurker who comes to this looking to form an opinion will think "man, it seems like a lot of people want X, so I'll vote that way." Which maybe isn't what the "actual" "majority" wants.

I have a feeling that the flail will be restrained if we (we = SPNers) remain in Boxed Set. Because we want to respect the desires of our fellow posters, and not get our peanut butter all up in their chocolate, and no one will be able to tell us to clear the hell out again for six months. (Using, you know, the royal "we" above.)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I will say that I felt a little weird posting about Padalecki's hair in BS the other night

I was curious about how the discussion would go, and thought this:

Let the record show that the Boxed Set thread has now completed the 7th grade slumber party portion of its programming, and will now revert to discussion of sci fi TV shows. We thank you for your patience

therefore interesting.

I ask again, what is the mark of success for Boxed Set? It's a place to talk about shows you like, but not shows you like too much? It's a place for people to talk with you about shows you like and shows you may like?

Are we all really (mediafannishness aside) looking at it that differently?

I know my own heart and understand my fellow man. But I am made unlike anyone I have ever met. I dare to say I am like no one in the whole world. - Anne Lister

I really hate that you guys feel that way and wish we could fix it. FWIW, I am not "voting you guys out of BS." I'm voting for being able to find content that I'm looking for quickly (in both BS and SPN, should it be created). I love the squee. I love the SPN boys. I also love BSG. And this would make locating discussion on both easier. That is all. As new shows come, we'll hit this again and again. It should be based on volume of posts/interest. No new show is going to start in its own thread (unless it's a Jossverse show).

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Wow- I probably have never posted in boxed set, but would be interested in an SPN thread because I just started talking about it. I am horribly saddened that people won't feel lie they can talk about TV and squee here somewhere, because I want to talk about shows here, and find it easier when they are in separate threads. I hate to speak for people, but I don't think anyone wanted people to have their feelings hurt or to make people feel pushed out.

When it comes to voting and consensus, I have to reiterate that I agree with everything Jesse has said-- we have no idea how many people feel a certain way until the vote comes in. This is certainly a vote where I would feel inclined to vote no preferance because I cannot figure out what would be best for the board except a time machine, and I just want all the people with hurt feelings to get what they want.

See, that? Stung. Even though Nutty was squeeing, too, I believe, which made it more confusing.

I don't want to have to squee and then apologize for it.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Why go back to Boxed Set and risk talking too much about another show that the thread was established for and then be told that you're talking too much about it? I know that may not be people's intentions, but that's the message that I see being floated out there.

But if the "worst" that happens is getting your own thread to talk about this other show, I don't get why it's such a bad thing. It seems like reasonable evolution in discussion:

Someone loves a show and shares the love in thread ==> More people start loving the show and talking about it more ==> Show builds in excitement until it's consistently dominating the thread ==> Board votes to spin off discussion of show into its own thread.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Zen said all the talk had turned her *off* the show, too. (I think. Zen, was that you?)

Yeah, that was me. It's true, but I'm sort of regretting having said it. I don't blame anyone for it, and I certainly don't want to add to anyone's feelings of being unwelcome.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Frank wasn't the only one who was uncomfortable with the volume and...volume of squee and flail.

I'm not sure uncomfortable is the right word. Possibly at times, though mildly irritated is probably closer. At other times amusement. Still other times I'd enjoy reading some specific post or group of posts for their own sake (what with the spicy brains being on display and all). Same thing happens with some of the topics in natter. The difference was this was a single show, so I thought it might have reached the point of being in its own home, and I just happened to stumble across a discussion when I was in slightly irritated mode.

Honest to dog I was hoping either the idea of an SPN thread would be embraced enthusiastically or shot down with a "nope happy with things as they are" and things would have gone from there. If I'd even remotely thought there was going to be this kind of massive kerfuffle I never would have hit post.

Now I don't have any idea how to vote on this, because if there's no SPN thread, then...

See, that? Stung.

I was surprised for, like, three and a half seconds. Then I figured out it was a joke. (I hope?)

I just want to tell you how awesome Padalecki's hair is, people! Is that so wrong?!?
