Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I was just going to say that I made 2 proposals-- but I don't think you owe me a kidney. I also used to be amoung the most talkative, back when there were stats on WX threads. Now, not so much. I am not sure if these are related.

Now-- I loved spoilers lite, but I do have to say I think it was a pretty small community-- me, sumi, Jon B. are really whaty I remember-- so I am not sure that traditional "lite" thread will serve the needs of the most buffistas.

Up with the sun

But to propose, table, poll, reconsider, propose again was expressly what I personaly hoped voting would avoid... the drawn out nature of the process.

I'm sorry that was annoying, but I really felt (and feel) the poll needed to be part of that process, and I couldn't (and can't) see how to get a poll up other than through a proposal. Things were stickier than I had hoped, but I don't think two weeks is an unreasonable amount of time to take to make a decision in this forum, especially as more than half of that was polling or voting time.

As for the current proposal... it sounds like the situation that fits the most needs is one hardcore no-whitefont thread, one all whitefont and labeled as to showand spoiler type.

Our wings are not tired.

Spoilers: Hardcore we don't want no stinkin' whitefont seems the best plan for the Ho thread. I rarely go there although I enjoy reading the speculation and discussion after the fact. It wouldn't feel the same with whitefont.

Lite: Probably more people read the thread than contributed because it functioned as an annoucement thread. Personally I felt that the matters that ended up in this thread were ok whitefonted in the general discussion thread, but I respect that the virginal need protection.

An all white font all the time labeled thread could be fun with creative use of the spoiler font, but I don't know how long it would be before the novelty wore off.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

For the record, I'm not in need of novelty or fun. In fact, the thread I was envisioning would look much like:

[Charmed casting] Julian McMahon is guest starring in a three episode arc where Cole returns as a mortal, attending medical school.

[ita's charmed casting spoiler] Oh, please. Are they gonna make him a plastic surgeon?

Nothing cutesy, just information and discussion.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

it sounds like the situation that fits the most needs is one hardcore no-whitefont thread, one all whitefont and labeled as to showand spoiler type.

I vote for this, with the addendum that the second whitefonted thread would be the place for unwhitefonted lite spoilers.

I know that this won't please everybody, but really, we could add 15 threads and not please everybody. This seems like the best compromise.

Then we add 16. Where's your spirit of world domination?

Visilurking

I'm getting a sense that we're trying to please the most people with one thread. Jon and I (and I don't know how many others) are not going to use a Lite thread that has hard core spoilers in white font. Part of the charm of Lite was that TV guide type spoilers were whitefonted, as were some casting spoilers, making it "safe" to read the whitefont even if a little dangerous. But if someone put a hard core nugget under there, he/she was quickly told to remove it to spoilers.

So I'm happy to vote for a spoiler whitefont thread if there's a demand for it, but I'd rather it wasn't called a Lite thread. Because it seems to me that the thread is really directed to people who want to to be totally spoiled for some shows and not others, and not for people who are just looking to discuss Lite spoilers. And I'd rather the Lite thread issue went unvoted on and unmoratoriumed, than repurposed, moratoriumed and, in my opinion, rendered useless.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I'm not going to vote for it, whatever it's called, not just because I wouldn't use it, but because I think it's bad form to have the same information posted in two different places (one whitefonted, one not). It doesn't feel right to me.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

You know, I'm willing to put the Lite issue to a vote with wording of your choosing if you feel strongly you'd like to see a Lite (as we recall Lite from months/years ago) thread.
