Anya, the Shopkeepers of America called. They wanted me to tell you that 'please go' just got replaced with 'have a nice day.'

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Thanks for all the fish.

If I hadn't had been spoiled by people talking/posting about these things I would still be happily unspoiled. I don't know how many people would be with me.

See, the thing is - I got spoiled by people who just assumed that 'everyone' knew. I'm just trying to get across that, no, not 'everyone' knows these things.

Disaffected college student

Another problem here is that, for those of us who are already spoiled, there is no way to know whether or not we would mind being spoiled before it happened. That is, if there were in fact some way to ask someone about whether they want to know "Valerie Harper is leaving Angel to do a spinoff" without spoiling them in the process of asking the question.

Linear time sucks. "I Will Remember You" is an anti-spoilage message. It's all so clear now.

Thanks for all the fish.

See, that's a good point. Because for all I know the things that I know are not the things that you know and we'll never know because asking could cause unwanted knowing!

I can't even.

I only know about one BCS and not the other, and the one I know is the one the WB jumped the gun on, to Joss' expressed (ie. ME) regret. In the absence of that premature announciation, we might be waiting for this season's WB promos to learn that information (except for those on the spoiler circuit).

Like I've said, the short term effect for me is losing access to one thread for a month, so I don't think it is that big a deal. However, as a general policy, my preference would be for the existing policy.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

So in that case, you'd have about 5 minutes of thinking anything other than Wesley is a regular.

This is a general "you", I'm going to assume, since a) I don't watch the credits (TiVo), and b) I'd not notice.

Elena, I hear you. However, it is an issue of how small the minority and how inconvenience the majority, no? I have a suspicion Pinwiz will find this out, and he's my upper bar for cast-iron chastity.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Well, this is the place to make arguments against - that's what the thread is for. If you can talk the proposer into quashing the vote, then, and I'm not sure about this, it could go into moritorium. But the whole thing is - we know there are people out there who would like (and through some miracle be able) to remain virgin-pure on these big spoilers. The question is, should that dictate the spoiler policy for the whole board?

At least that's how I see the issue. I don't absolutely care either way in terms of the outcome, but no argument is going to sway against voting for the change. Does that make sense?

edited for faulty paren. Oy, and punctuation. I should just give up.

Thanks for all the fish.

Oh, ita, absolutely. That's my stance entirely. Because if our spoiler policy were in anyway tyrranical we'd allow no discussion of the promos since those sully my virgin eyes.

But the whole thing is - we know there are people out there who would like (and through some miracle be able to) remain virgin-pure on these big spoilers.

Bolding mine. And here's what I (and, I think Katie) mean about notknowing=livingunderarock. Because, honestly, do you really think that it's that hard to avoid these things? Really? It's not as long as people don't assume that 'everyone' knows.

If you're in the US, yes. I've tried, half-assedly, and it didn't work. Listening to Pin explain how he does it -- it's an effort, not the simplest outcome.

Outside the US, it's a different deal.

Elena - Jul 24, 2003 5:29:17 pm PDT #1709 of 10289
Thanks for all the fish.

Fair enough, then. There aren't enough unAms on the board to dictate major policy (hence the way people are allowed to talk about promos even though it vexes me) - if this really is something that is difficult to avoid in the US, then by all means it should be something that can be discussed.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

The question is, should that dictate the spoiler policy for the whole board.

Okay, in all seriousness, why do you think the answer is no? What's frustrating about having to restrain Probably Obvious Spoiler talk to the Spoilers Lite topic? Since I personally don't find that frustrating at all.
