Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Elena, I hear you. However, it is an issue of how small the minority and how inconvenience the majority, no?
Oh, ita, absolutely. That's my stance entirely. Because if our spoiler policy were in anyway tyrranical we'd allow no discussion of the promos since those sully my virgin eyes.
But the whole thing is - we know there are people out there who would like (and through some miracle be able to) remain virgin-pure on these big spoilers.
Bolding mine. And here's what I (and, I think Katie) mean about notknowing=livingunderarock. Because, honestly, do you really think that it's that hard to avoid these things? Really? It's not as long as people don't assume that 'everyone' knows.

If you're in the US, yes. I've tried, half-assedly, and it didn't work. Listening to Pin explain how he does it -- it's an effort, not the simplest outcome.
Outside the US, it's a different deal.
Fair enough, then. There aren't enough unAms on the board to dictate major policy (hence the way people are allowed to talk about promos even though it vexes me) - if this really is something that is difficult to avoid in the US, then by all means it should be something that can be discussed.
The question is, should that dictate the spoiler policy for the whole board.
Okay, in all seriousness, why do you think the answer is no? What's frustrating about having to restrain Probably Obvious Spoiler talk to the Spoilers Lite topic? Since I personally don't find that frustrating at all.
(Asking out of curiosity, not because I want to argue the point.)
Honestly, what I think it is the the UnAmericans are going to get the short end of this (at least the ones who want to remain unspoiled) if the vote is yay. But I think I'd rather have the majority rule than the minority in this instance.
If it goes the other way, I don't care (mostly) and I will deal (completely), but I also would like to discuss some things without the jumping through hoops of whitefont. This isn't going to a thing for my major gripe, which is dealing with the bloody whitefonting over HP5 in literary. But I can live with that. I just know how I feel on this, and I'm voting accordingly. Hell, Jim is one of the UnAmericans, and he's the one who finally proposed it. It would have gotten proposed anyway, but that's how it ended up happening.
ETA Does that answer the question, Katie? It wasn't why I posted, but I'm curious if it does.
and edited for stupid punctuation errors again.

We're mixing issues here.
UnAmericans have a simpler time of staying unspoiled. But it's not what's being discussed.
Who will get the short end of the stick are people who have off-season casting news aversions. No reason this applies to all or only UnAms.

To be fair, nonNAms that go into NAFTA threads know that they'll get spoiled for stuff they haven't seen. We're talking about stuff that hasn't aired yet. Which is our policy. This is not about me going into the unAm thread and talking about the season 7 finale. This is about people going into spoiler safe threads and discussing spoilers.
The thing that has to be determined is if this is really a 'spoiler' or common knowledge.
Personally, the type of casting info being discussed is not my definition of spoilage. However, skimming the discussion makes me opposed to having such info not whitefonted in the show threads. Again, I would enjoy the discussion that would include casting announcements. I’ll continue reading the discussion because it really is not an easy decision for me.
This is pretty much the only board I visit. I have seen others and decided it is way scary away from here. This is my safe haven. This, that, or the other thing could make this place no longer safe for me. I hate the notion that changing the spoiler policy would make it not a safe place for my fellows.
Also, I don't find
whitefont
such a big deal.
No reason this applies to all or only UnAms.
No, I just meant that they are the ones who have a bigger choice on being unspoiled over the REALLY big stuff, so I think it's most unfair to them. Like you said, Pin has to jump through his own hoops to avoid this stuff (and you skip the credits, not something everyone has the luxury of - granted if they can just ignore, it helps). The UnAms have the path of least resistance for this stuff, I think.
Although I'm curious, Elena - do you ignore the promos, etc. from where you do get the ME shows?
