Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I have to admit, if I were an ME writer, I'd take the people who named a thread named after my work a lot more seriously than ones who'd fannishly named one after me peronally. I do think the thread should be a nod to Tim and the fact that he's posted with us for several years. But he might feel more inclined to post if at least the header was about work, not him personally.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I feel strongly that it should be a show and/or Collected Works thread, rather than a person thread. It really bothers me, the idea that we worship the person rather than the content that person produces. Crosses that line in my brain that I don't like to cross.

Yep. I'd prefer to see a show thread, with other works and other alum stuff incorporated. For one thing, unless and until Joss has another big project in the offing (other than the one currently rumored, which already has a thread), I don't see enough going on with other alum to sustain a thread. I'm also not sure that a Tim thread that's not a show thread will really get that much action either. And that would make me sadder than no thread at all, to see it languishing.

One of the things that's so cool about Tim coming here and posting is that he really is one of us when he's here - we don't have a VIP archive, his posts aren't singled out and in fourteen point bold. I think an all-Tim, all-the-time thread is moving away from this. A general alum thread, which I suspect would be named in some way for Tim anyway, would be a better fit. And when Wonder Falls actually comes on the air, we'll have a better idea if it needs a thread separate from that.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

How far in advance did the Firefly thread start? There was like, two-thousand posts before the show even aired.

If we had a thread dedicated to the wonders of Scotch tape, Buffistas would have 900 posts in 12 hours.

I mean, sure, wait until closer to the show airs, but I dont think lack of conversation is ever a problem, here.

Brenda said it better than I did.

Nobody

If we had a Works of Tim thread, would we be disallowed from discussing episodes Tim has written in the Angel thread?

I feel like that's an unfair question that gets trotted out, anytime anyone is opposing any thread. With the exception of forbidding spoilers outside of their natural habitat, (and nattering in Beep Me and Press) when do we ever regulate conversation?

We did have an Angel thread named, "No Unca Tim! Noooooooo!!!"

I think this is sort of in the same spirit. He was the driving force behind Angel, and so I think the thread was very Minearesque.

Very early, but that was on WX before we had the thread proliferation issues.

Allyson, some questions: Are you going to attach an opening date to your proposal or (assuming it passes) are you going to open it right away. Also, repeated questions from upstream, will this be a NAFDA thread, and how will we treat spoilers?

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have no idea how to explain why I think it's confusing to have a general alum thread. It's just what my brain is screaming at me this foggy morning.

Here's my take. I want a works-o-Minear thread. I think his work and his presence here merit it. Unless something's shifted, I see no reason that one would be banned from talking about his Angel eps in Angel -- I'm still allowed to talk Movies in Natter, right?

Part of it is because I think he's damned good, and his stuff generates a lot potential for discussion. And the other part is because he's Tim, and he's cool, and he comes around and participates.

This does distinguish him from the other alum, in my eyes. Especially those not showrunning next year.

However, volumewise, I'm prone to suggest delaying the opening to mitigate the potential natter and keep volume down. Until we're closer to Wonderfalls info, which is the big driver for this for me.

Yes, Cindy, I made the proposal very simple so that it wouldnt be too nitty to reshape it as discussion goes on. I hope. Please. For the love of Minear. ahhhh ha ha
