I hope you don't think that I just come over for the spells and everything. I mean, I really like just talking and hanging out with you and stuff.

Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Thrive to spite them

I want a Tim Thread, because he's Tim and I could get behind talking about the Angel episodes he's written and directed and whatnot.

I don't venture to Previously often because frankly I'm not big on discussing many of the past episodes (yeah, I know Buffy's over so my attitude is going to change) but--it's Tim.

He wrote Billy and Darla and i'm forgetting the names of others. But I could sustain a discussion on Billy for quite a while ( I have extensive notes about Billy).

I don't follow the other people mentioned, I'm not big on them, I don't pay attention to who writes what except for Tim and that's because of his involvement here.

And it's kinda selfish but there you have it.

I'm kind of in the middle now. I'm swaying.

I think I want to have a place to talk about Tim's latest work and have a place he feels comfortable posting.

But since his new show won't happen until January and we already have threads to cover the most current work of TM, maybe we should wait.

But really don't want to mix the not-Joss-alumn topics. In fact I really just don't care about having dedicated topics to any shows that are not related to Joss or Tim.

Nobody

Allyson, will your thread have a NAFDA designation? What will the spoiler rules be?

Ann, that's a ferret.

I'll be voting no. Not on the pros and cons of a Minear thread, but because we need a more thorough look at threads going forward.

As has been mentioned from time to time, there's a lot of change in the MEverse. Firefly is gone. Buffy is gone. That means we should get rid of some threads (not mentioning any names in particular), change names of others. And while we're at it, see if we want to add threads (my hobbyhorse would be a Travel thread to make it easier to set up mini-F2Fs when Buffistas travel).

I don't object to a Minear thread on the merits. I just don't think a piecemeal approach to threads is the way to go right now.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Q: How will Minear feel

I don't know. I think thread title should be chosen carefully. The Minearverse, for example, is about the works, and not about the man. Like The Jossverse in other Media isn't about whether Joss wears Spiderman underoos. It's about his work.

Dana's comment about thread proliferation is something that has been on my mind.

I think, after this vote, I'll be proposing a Spring cleaning. Firefly is now unAmerican, for example. The various Buffy threads can be consolidated.

(If they fall into "untouchable" until September, that's good timing, as the new television season starts about then, and so it will make sense to end discussion in current Buffy threads at that time)

I'm also worried that even though "works of Tim Minear" is in the title, the thread will devolve into what he wore to dinner, etc.

Unless someone is keeping a Big Secret, I have no idea what the contents of Tim's refrigerator is, and I'd be uncomfortable speculating what he may or may not do in his unWrite-y time. This is strictly about works. Mind's Eye, Zorro, Lois and Clark, and all the rest are fair game.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

But since his new show won't happen until January and we already have threads to cover the most current work of TM, maybe we should wait.

candyb, yeah, big point there. The reason we needed a 2nd Firefly thread was that we spent 3/4 of the first one talking about tangential issues, long before the show aired. I liked that talk, but it could have happened in Natter.

Where have we talked about Tim's works in the past? Firefly thread, Angel thread. (Once in Angel Spoilers Lite, which was a sign of the apocalypse.) Lois & Clark we've talked about in Natter. XF in several threads, but mostly I think in Natter. That short-lived show Strange World, in Natter and a little bit in Angel thread, although the Angel thread parts were direct dialogue with him, and he was in the Angel thread at the time.

If we had a Works of Tim thread, would we be disallowed from discussing episodes Tim has written in the Angel thread?

I just have a bad feeling that a Works of Tim thread would be filling a much-needed gap, and I want to figure out how (if) it's going to fit in advance.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Firefly is now unAmerican, for example.

DVDs!

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Setting aside the fact that he posts here -- which could change at any time -- why Tim? Why not Jane Espenson or David Greenwalt or David Fury or Ultimate Drew or even Joss Whedon? Or for that matter, why not Eliza Dushku or Seth Green?

Because ultimately, Tim has paid us a great deal of attention whereas other writers and actors have not. (Joss I see seperately, however, as the bulk of this board IS a giant Joss thread.) I think if, say, Ultimate Drew popped by fairly regularly, we'd be having this discussion about him. Or Fury. Or Nicholas Brendon. Or whomever.

That being said, perhaps we can find a compromise, something like, "Wonder Falls and other Works of Minear." That way, we have the reach to go back to chat about old Lois & Clark episodes if we feel like it, or switch gears if Wonder Falls doesn't fly, but is still very clearly not skewed to the "Secret Life of Tim Minear and his Secret Celebrity Lovers." Also, puts the current project forward, which I think would be appreciated.

Secret Life of Tim Minear and his Secret Celebrity Lovers.

This is funny.

Hmm. If we DO decide to do this, can we agree to wait until closer to Wonder Falls? I mean, the vast majority of Tim Talk happening now wouold probably still revolve around Angel until next season, any way.
