Warwick was utterly unmotivated by food when I got him (he was anorexic for a good while). He didn't like toys. He didn't like walks. (still not big into either). He didn't want to be touched (well that's cured). It was a lot of "Good boy! Oh what a good boy!" when he did anything the least bit encouragable (as opposed to, I suppose, incorrigible) for a long time.

My dog loves me a lot but he absolutely would be like “oh no, I have no mother….hello nice stranger will you be my mother?” And they would say yes of course!

Skinner is quite devoted to me, but will abandon me in a moment to anyone with a treat. A complete stranger who opens the car door and asks him if he wants to go for a ride would have Skinner forever. On the rare occasions when he doesn't like someone I know there is something up there.
