I just checked in with Julianna and Sylvie and they'll be joining me next week to tour the venue for the Memorial. I'll be leaning on them for some localista assistance as I pull the Memorial together.
In other weird natural disaster news, my friend in St. Louis had her car totaled by a hail storm. Turned out to be one of those weirdly beneficial insurance claims where she'll get a new car and be out of car loan debt.
I have a flat tire and have to limp my car over to the nearest garage (1/4 mile away) to get that taken care of. Feh.
Next week is Spring Break for Matilda. I expect much sleeping in.
Two cancer updates:
1. Lola got her port put in yesterday and is receiving her first infusion today. She was in good spirits. I think just getting treatment started is giving her some sense of hope and agency. Her sisters flew in to be with her and that's a big boost as well.
2. Cupid is fully recovered from her surgery and feeling pretty peppy for an old girl. I'll be dogsitting her next week while her family is away on their Spring Break (they're going to Zion National Park).
I just checked my online banking and guess what hit my account?
Jacqueline's "death benefit"
and
the backpay on her pension going back to her retirement last July!
Finally, after 9 months of bureaucratic wrangling. And that means I can finally start engaging with our health insurance plan too.
That is quite the pleasant overdue surprise, David!

Oh dang, I need to get plane tickets and book a hotel. Okay, doing that this weekend.

Same. Any suggestions on where to stay would be appreciated.
So, is there a dress code for the memorial?
Also, I have to share something. My boss is retiring. My boss is very anti-fuss. She does not want a party, or gift, or a department event, or anything like that. I have respected that, but some of my colleagues are insisting on doing something (why gawd, why?). I have inadvertently been roped into the fuckery because I was asked if I know how to superimpose words on a picture. When I stupidly said yes, they asked me to superimpose a poem that my colleague wrote over a photo. Y'all, I got the poem today and I think that it was written by AI. The first stanza is:
In the quiet corridors of office lore,
Where deadlines hummed and memos soared,
There stood a manager, wise and kind,
Her brilliance a beacon, forever enshrined.
So, is there a dress code for the memorial?
Dress in your best, splendid style with lots of color.
That's some kind of Corporate Poem, alright.
Wow, Vortex. What else can you say but wow.
hugs to everyone who wants them.
Vortex, that is. Well. That.
Any suggestions on where to stay would be appreciated.
Anyone who has any questions/concerns/etc. about where to stay in SF can email me at my profile gmail account, and I'll be happy to help. Budget/timeframe/desired amenities are good things to add in said email. (Unless, David, you have specific ideas of where folks should stay)
