That's a college prof thing. K-12 teachers don't get sabbaticals, alas.
Toronto public schools have/had a program where you could choose to have 80% pay for four years and take the fifth as a sabbatical paid with the withheld funds and maintain benefits and tenure. I knew a few people who did that. Not feasible for everyone but in a system that pays reasonably it always sounded so cool.
Because Trump was visited by the FBI's counterintelligence chief in June trying to get this stuff back, it looks like Trump has shit that he's showing to the Russians at Mar A Lago, with the latest implication being high level nuclear weapon info.
Heather Cox Richardson says it's more base and shittier than treason. Jared wants to sell nuclear technology to the Saudis in a deal worth billions. That's what this is about.
Ugh. I wouldn’t discount that. Though I also wouldn’t be surprised if they thought they could play Saudis, Russia and who knows else off one another.
I've heard that it's speculated that Jared is the mole who squealed about the nuclear secrets -- I wonder if he got ordered to negotiate and decided (or rather, Ivanka decided) that was a step that could get him serious jail time that FiL couldn't save him from.
I also wonder if some of those Top Secret documents are excellent blackmail material that Trump wanted to keep close to him to keep the screws going on McCarthy et al.
The speculation is fun, but the only thing that will really do is to see the former occupant convicted. Preferably in NY, and GA, other states, and Federal, with negotiation as to where he serves time first. Alas, I fear it won't matter at all what comes out with his loyal idiot followers. I hope it is a smaller number than we think that still are devoted, but they are so loud, and insane. I fear it will get worse before it gets better.
I think that we need to be realistic that he will not serve time. The DOJ will allow him to plead guilty and serve under house arrest, for security reasons. We will have to be content with him being disqualified to serve in federal office again. Which would not prevent him from running for governor of Florida, however. But, then, they deserve him.

If he can't serve in federal office again, I'll be happy with that result.
Thank you, Vortex and Hec!
Keeping Trump from federal office would be enough for me. I'd love to see him in prison, but the security issue would probably prevent that. Unfortunately.
So it's a daunting day already.
Anne Heche is being taken off life support, Salman Rushdie got stabbed in the neck, and one of my Kenyon acquaintances died unexpectedly (and I suspect suicide).
I'm sorry to hear about your college friend, Hec. That's hard.
