And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

Not recognizing the Shelleys isn't Millennial. It's just someone who needs an English lit refresher.

Agreed! (Meant to write that earlier, but was so excited about getting a ride home from work, I forgot!)

I would love a ride, Calli! Anny said she'd get me, but she works a lot later than I do, especially today. Thanks! (I'll text you.)

Our wings are not tired.

I'm getting an X-ray.

I know we all aspire to be like Zenkitty and meara, but no more broken legs!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Nothing broken. No idea why it's swollen. Pretty much a waste of two hours of my life.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I thought this might cheer people up. Entertainment magazine did a photoshoot of Stephen Colbert dressed up as some LoTR characters ... I mean, how ELSE could we see Gandalf getting a NY cab?

This is way more wind than we ever got with Florence. Aaand our power just went out.

Librarian Warlord

Stay safe, everyone.

The HR person I am working on because of a bad thing just emailed to ask me for the names of everyone who works in my department who is of a certain race. I don't even know how to begin to answer that question - does she want me to guess? does she want me to ask them to self identify? doesn't she have the information if they chose to self identify at the time we signed them up for paychecks?

I'm going to ignore the question and hope it goes away. It's a managerial strategy I used to hesitate to apply, but now it's a favorite.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Sorry they didn't have a solution, sj. You get adulting stars for checking it out though.

Sorry about the power loss! This storm held up to going over land so much more than usual. Yikes.

Sparky, not cool. If they ask again would it be acceptable to say you were not comfortable classifying your coworkers that way?

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

Well dang, Buffista-ma! Tim has a verbal job offer! They're going to email the formal offer tomorrow, and assuming everything is copacetic, he should start sometime in November (depending on how much notice his current job needs).

He wasn't expecting to have a job interview today -- the manager called him this morning and asked if he could come in at 4:00. So he went, but felt a little unprepared. During the interview, the manager asked Tim what salary he was hoping for. I think Tim low-balled the number. Here's my question, because I don't have a lot of experience with job negotiation: when Tim gets the formal offer, can he still negotiate on salary, or has that ship sailed?

For Sparky: or you could list yourself (if applicable) and for everyone else claim ignorance.
