Dana, yes. There's decades of crazy there (didn't people used to spraypaint "Frodo lives" in the subways? ...ah, thank you wikipedia [link] and there are the movies vs. books elements, and the languages. Though I guess Star Wars and Trekkies are ahead in terms of cosplay and conventions and such.
Twilight won, really? I feel like that's such a pop culture blip. Or am I just super hopeful that twenty years from now, we'll have forgotten about all that?

As crazy as Twilight fandom seems, it's hard to top "psychically married to one of the actors."
