I just watched 40 minutes of the first one in my lunch hour, and hmm. Hmm. I'm trying to see it all American style.
Buffista Movies 7: Brides for 7 Samurai
A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
Okay, Attack the Block is pretty fabulous. It's so rare that I see movies that just skip the whole exposition part and dive right into the action that I'm always surprised that it works pretty awesomely and why don't we just do that all the time?
I'm trying to think of good acting turns by:
- Robert De Niro
- Sam Jackson
- Brad Pitt
Godfather II? Eve's Bayou? Fresh? Meet Joe Black?
I thought DeNiro was creepy as hell in the remake of Cape Fear. And since he was supposed to be creepy, I'd call that good acting.
You mean specifically where they don't chew the scenery?
DeNiro's fantastic in Godfather II. A very soulful performance with allusions to Brando.
You mean specifically where they don't chew the scenery?
I do tend to have a fondness for scenery-chewing. Disregard my suggestion.
For Sam Jackson, Fresh is a terrific choice. That is an amazing film.
You mean specifically where they don't chew the scenery?
Yeah, where they're not the personality, but they are the character. Someone is citing them as not good actors, merely film stars. Whereas I think Jackson and De Niro earned star, and Pitt leavened it.
Why are you in an argument with someone who thinks De Niro is not a good actor, but rather a film star?
