To bring that back around to chess, Cillian Murphy's character is named Robert Fischer, Jr. Making Maurice Robert Fischer, Sr., aka Bobby Fischer. I thought it was fairly clear that they couldn't insert the idea without context; that's why they had to create an emotional reason that worked for Fischer. They're working backward from "break up the company", not "be your own man."
