Spike's Bitches 42: Which question do you want me to answer first?

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

started from Hec mentioning The Painted Door)

Slanted Door! I'm sure they paint it though.

Fleur de Lys

Still the premier French restaurant in the city but it has slipped a bit. Very romantic though, but not a consensus top five pick anymore, I don't think.

Rosamund/Toronado (I know, not fancy but I LOVE IT

Oktoberfest, baby!

Gary Danko

Now there you've got a consensus top five pick. In the latest guides it's the highest rated in SF. French Laundry is still the best in the area, though it's not in San Francisco.

ETA: ooh, where is the best sushi?

Like "wheres is the best burrito?" this is a topic of unceasing debate in SF. I like Hamano, though.

There's a fantastic, super delicious German restaurant you'd like, Nora. It's called Suppenkuchen.

There's a Malaysian restaurant I'd take you too, also, called Borobodur (or something like that). Patricia Unterman has a review of it. Very addictive.

Oh hey! It's lunchtime. Now I have to go to the Ferry Building and eat something good.

Oof, Slanted Door, sorry, my brain!

Where IS the best burrito???

I am marking your post for when we (hopefully, if we don't use the money we've saved for it up while Tom is unemployed) go to SF/NoCA next year for a swanky 5th anniversary trip.

At the SF2F, I had sushi twice (both times with Jilli and Pete): once at a place called Godzilla (excellent sushi, including a roll called the Tinky Winky roll, which was quite good), and once at a place on Valencia called We Be Sushi, which was WAY better than the name might make you think.

Mmmm. Sushi.

"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

ETA: ooh, where is the best sushi?

Okay, I'm sure it's not the best, but I have a special fondness for the place at the corner of 16th and Valencia, where I used to go and lesson plan over California rolls and chardonnay. Ummm... Sushi Yamamoto, maybe? I think it started with a Y, anyway.

Oh! And make sure you go to the Indian ice cream place on Valencia for rosewater or cardamom ice cream. Which reminds me, I need to go home and eat my ginger ice cream. Off I go!

“Not dead yet!”

One of the best meals I've ever had, granted it was probably twelve or thirteen years ago, was at One Market.

NOM.

I want Pacific salmon.

Now.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have a load of Mg every day for the migraines. It's one of the few things I take with which I can really feel the difference. When I was off it the headaches were quite different, and worse.

I am currently reading on SF Chowhound how to get reservations for The French Laundry.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I just want to mention to all Bitches that I am wearing these jeans [link] today and they are THE BOMB. I highly recommend them to all and sundry. Really comfy and flattering and the wide legs are way cool. I got a pair in blue and one in black and they are going to be my winter office pants fo sho.

Gotta plan a year ahead, no? Keller is Anthony Bourdain's personal hero of chefery.
