A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
Russell Tovey just rocks. I think the Herrick we got was a good Herrick, but losing Adrian Lester? Damn. He was a silky smooth man of evil.
oh, man! I would have LOVED him as Herrick. Probably would have changed my feelings about Herrick considerably. I first saw our Herrick as the fumbling psychologist on Vivienne Vyle, so it was a bit of an adjustment.

He was so different. And good. But I totally can't see him kissing that crazy cafeteria girl, can you?
Is anyone here planning on watching SG: Universe? I've been reading the most dodgy things about its sexual politics (body swapping so that the paraplegic asexual lesbian can sleep with a man, IIRC), not to mention the rageaholic black guy that had been nicknamed Psycho. I want to know if it's as bad as all that, but how long can I keep sacrificing myself at the altar of crap TV just for the knowledge?

ita, these are the writers/producers who played a rapist for laughs on SGA. Who, when they got Teal'c for an episode on SGA, all they could think of to do was put him in a cage-match with Ronon. And who could sent Teyla cheerfully back to the Milky Way with Atlantis, leaving her child behind.
I actually do think it's as bad as all that.
Spoilery for the pilot/trailers:
Not even for RDA, since I'm sure we're only getting five minutes of Jack in the pilot anyway.
The MGM/Gekko/Bridge guys have squandered any credit they had earned by virtue of some great casting and a number of seasons of good-natured, not too ambitious storytelling. They now think they're going to be the next BSG, forgetting that in order to be Ron Moore (which in itself is a somewhat dubious goal, given the end of BSG), you have to actually give a damn about character and consequences--which they don't.
... erm. Sorry about the rantage, there. It's just those guys piss me off. And I don't think John Scalzi's involvement is actually going to make much of a difference.

Not that I don't appreciate excellent manflesh battling it out--but when that's all you can do with them because there hasn't been anything interesting written for a PoC to do that Chris Judge didn't write for himself...well, it takes the shine off the shallow appreciation.
Everything I've read about JMallozzi's response to the fanbase has made me dislike him and miss showrunners like Tim and John Rogers and even almost cranky Joss.
At least they backed off calling their black guy Psycho. Maybe they're capable of learning? Probably not complex lessons, and probably not in time.

no, but it didn't really work for me with the current herrick either, to be honest.
I can see current Herrick tolerating it as a sign of how miniony she is. But Adrian Lester's Herrick would have her lick his boots to display same. It's not like our Herrick has that many women knocking down his door, really. And Lester can command a writhing harem of vampire babes.
I can see that as well, but it didn't ring true in a lot of places, like when Herrick is leaving to meet Mitchell, and everyone is cheering him on, and he stops to kiss her. didn't work for me. It would have worked better if she'd done something subservient, like put on his coat or something.

I thought it was just me, misunderstanding something. It made me kind of step back from the story for a moment, wondering, "who is SHE, now? isn't she just Cafeteria Girl?" It made her look like more than a disposable concubine/minion, which is what I think she really was.

I have to guess she's more than that, because she's plain, but why? It makes little sense.
Maybe she's explained in series 2.
She seemed very Renfieldish, but she's actually a vampire, so I don't know what the deal is supposed to be.
