Okay, I was really enjoying Torchwood except for when Rhys, after having seen a gigantic alien, refuses to believe that Gwen catches aliens for a living (otherwise that was a great argument). Handwaved that and then got to Owen suddenly deciding, all on his lonesome, that, as Team Torchwood is
winning,
to
kill
the sweet defenseless sentient alien whale/slug thing. The hell?!
I gave up on the last several minutes at that point.
They were going to try to sedate it, but it had grown too big, so they euthanized it instead.
seriously! I think they are trying to induce psychosis!
psychosis where we all turn into zombies and go out to see the movie... instead of ... er. actual psychosis.
Yeah. Too much art imitating life in my actual life. Causing pain. No love.
Yeah - the ending was turbulent, but there were some parts that really kicked ass. I was explaining to DH about how this was such a great show- and how there were competing relationships that made things complicated, when the catfight/who can be more worthy battle broke out in the conference room. And I almost yelled Jack! FTW! But really. Because then I'll have to explain cheering for Jack. And here I go... off to do just that.
I get the euthanising--it's not a far leap to see the poor thing as past it, plus hella hard to move and house--I know they try and portray a sense of huge storage volume at the hub, but I'm not buying it, and the cells are uniformly small.
Yeah, it was the size of a blimp. I can't imagine they could get it into the hub.
One of my favorite things about this episode was Gwen and Rhys' fights. They're painful and vicious, the kind of fights people have when they've had years to learn where their partner's sore spots are.
Can we take a moment for the bad assedness that is Ianto? My original copy had bad audio in that one scene towards the end where he takes the baddies out, so I'm eagerly waiting for the reshowing here in the Pacific timezone so I can hear it right and proper.
I'll take you that moment and see you some good dialog too.
and some very nice pizza ordering.

I'm not sure if it was your copy or not. I couldn't understand what Ianto said at the end of that scene. It sounded like
"Pray you survive"
but I wouldn't swear on it.
I found the fate of the alien horrifically sad. And agree that even if they'd sedated it, I don't think they could have gotten it anywhere they could have helped it.
Loved Rhys in this episode. Do not understand where Jack's crush on Gwen came from unless it's because she seems to be the only peson not crushing on him. That, or it's fallout from Gwen refusing to give up on Jack coming back to life the last episode of season 1. But whatever it is, I shouldn't have to work this hard to make it sensical.
I don't think they did enough in S1 (though they could have, in the final ep) to support the S2 Jack/Gwen whatever.
I think it was "Pray they survive."
