Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon
A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.
Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.
Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.
DW 4.08:
Kate, sorry
I just wasn't feeling it. In fact in the middle of the ep. I said out loud, "This feels like they are trying for the same fear as "Blink" but not managing it." But of course, one fan's sauce is another fan's dust and ashes.
Also,
while it did seem like whatshername from the Doctor's future might have been/will become the Doctor's Lover, it seemed more like a misdirection. It would be too obvious to our limited human understanding, and he is an alien, after all. So all we really know is that at some point in the future she is special enough to the Doctor that he hands over the Screwdriver of Great Sonicness, and makes her think she is quite special. But whether that puts in her Rose's league or Sarah Jane's, we can't tell. I'd bet more SJ than R, though.
JenP, I think
the people who have been saved, have been uploaded into the teleporter's buffer, like Scotty in that TNG ep. and can be reintegrated when it is safe.
To be honest that idea was something Daniel said as we were watching, and I made the TNG connection.
DW 4.8: The moment that
made the hair on the back of my neck stand up was when Doctor Moon calmly informed the little girl that her nightmares were real. That entire speech felt like something the Doctor himself might have told someone. In fact, it got me wondering if--given that we've been shown a future companion--Doctor Moon is the 11th or even 12th Doctor. That would be a lovely, lovely twist.
Daniel,
what if there was a vashawhatever stuck in the buffer with her, and the Doctor will be able to stop it from devouring her when she gets reintegrated?
Anne, ITA with your whitefont, and your speculation would DELIGHT me!
A comment on the DW some of us saw yesterday, a few weeks after those who access the BBC. When the UNIT general put on the gas mask, and the Doctor asked wryly "Are you my Mummy?" nearly got diet coke on my TV set.
BSG - Oh, I LOVED that the model ship got broken in the Adama/Tigh fight. Hee.
I assume that this one didn't come from a museum!
DW 4.08
Any chance that's Jenny after a regeneration or two?
Also
How impressive of Moffatt to basically say theres still a lot more doctor to come. Isn't there speculation that David Tennant won't be back for many more series?

DW 4x08:
I think what we're supposed to get from it is that
she's a former intimate (perhaps lover) that knew 10 for quite a while, but not Noble, implying that Tennant's run will exceed Tate's by a while. Which is a lot to say.
I hated when he started yelling about
not letting the shadows cross, because there's no way they could stick to that, and then the viewers are left with rules for the universe that don't work.
I think that in the quest for
creepiness
they exceeded how much
consistency the script and the shooting could deliver, and it ended up more hysterical than most of
Moffat's prior efforts.
DW 4.8:
VictorC, I also suspected
she might be Jenny, but she definitely didn't seem daughterly, and...also, she can't be Jenny because this is supposed to be the first time The Doctor meets her and she meets Donna.
ita, I agree with you that
the consistency of the shadow business bugged. I kept noticing when they were standing in the shadows and nothing happened. But I went with it anyway because it was cool.
As for the comparisons to
"Blink," I don't necessarily care how "scary" each episode is. What I love is how clever Moffat is, integrating multiple elements of coolness and also playing with time travel, which, for God's sake, the show should do more often. And I think this two-parter obviously has a much larger scope than "Blink," and I really want to see what's up with CAL and the little girl and Dr. Moon. Even though they're not real.
DW 4.8:
P-C, my impression is that
the little girl *is* CAL, the brain that runs/is the planet.

I'm sure pretty River Song is meeting him now *before* she will have met him in her own personal past. Crossed timelines make the Doctor itch. To quote another Doc (Brown), "No man should know too much about their own destiny."
