Boxed Set, Vol. V: Just a Hint of Denial and a Dash of Retcon

A topic for the discussion of Doctor Who, Arrow, and The Flash. Beware possible invasions of iZombie, Sleepy Hollow, or pretty much any other "genre" (read: sci fi, superhero, or fantasy) show that captures our fancy. Expect adult content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Marvel superheroes are discussed over at the MCU thread.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Mostly last night's Who episode made me want to watch a MacGyver episode. I have a thing for Richard Dean Anderson that even the worst 1980s mullet can't diminish. and the cold war looms in the background of a lot of the show. No aliens, though. And no Clara.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Once again I find myself wondering why Russians are so British- sounding.

Do you think the TARDIS translator should give accents, rather than making it sound like they're your people?

Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black is blowing my mind! I am loving that show so far!

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

This week's episode was particularly boring and really made me miss Rory and Amy.

I just kept thinking how much more interesting it was when it was Angel stuck on the sub.

Tatiana Maslany on Orphan Black is blowing my mind! I am loving that show so far!

I am impressed with the actress, but I think I'd like it better if more than one of the clones (Kasima) didn't make me dislike them so (that was awkwardly phrased - Kasima is the only one I don't actively dislike so far, that's what I was going for). It also bugs me that it's purported to be from an original idea, but reminds me so much of Anna to the Infinite Power , a book I loved in middle school.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I'm halfway through Defiance. I don't think I like it.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I watched in bits and pieces because of local news coverage that preempted the shows that my roommate wanted to see. So watched some of the first hour, and then some of the second. I figured it wasn't gelling because I wasn't seeing the flow.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I watched the first hour before the PBS documentary on Wonder Woman started airing, and it hadn't gelled for me by that point. A shame; I liked that the leads are a father-daughter duo, I've always enjoyed Grant Bowler's and Julie Benz's work, and of course want Rockne O'Bannon to succeed.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I liked the 2nd part a lot more though - perhaps because there were explosions? The end was really fucked up. So on that basis alone, I'm back for the 2nd ep.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

In terms of Orphan Black. There are only three living clones we have spent any time with. Beth and the German are dead. And while Sarah is not a good person, I think she has a redemption arc. The decision to not kidnap her daughter and to not steal the money means she has finally learned the first law of holes: when you are in one stop digging. If they can do this without actually having Sarah do the self-pitying "oh what an awful sinner I was, and look what I good girl I am now" that could be interesting. And I think her character has been written such that they can. Also a question about Felix: can a character be a stereotype AND awesome?
