Natter Area 51: The Truthiness Is in Here
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Mmm, the things that I Google. (Note that I lose massive points for not repeating from memory...)
Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her butt.
It is so big. *scoff* She looks like,
one of those rap guys' girlfriends.
But, y'know, who understands those rap guys? *scoff*
They only talk to her, because,
she looks like a total prostitute, 'kay?
I mean, her butt, is just so big. *scoff*
I can't believe it's just so round, it's like,
out there, I mean - gross. Look!
She's just so ... black!
Isn't Deadliest Catch using a Bon Jovi tune for its theme song?
On the water,
Dead or alive...
I'm noticing that a lot of "kids" today cite the 80s among their favourite music. I figure there are three main interpretations: a) 80s music is that good b) The 80s're so long ago they've gone through uncool right back to cool c) Huh. I could've sworn there were three.
My brother and SIL raised all of their kids listening to her favorite singer (Bruce--she's seen him in concert over 100 times, and the kids could identify every member of the E-Street Band by the time they were three) and his oldies (everything from '50s to about 1985--U2 was the last band he really liked). My 8th-grade niece went through a Pink Floyd phase a few years back, but she's really into the Beatles right now. A few years ago, I was in the car with Kip and the then-seven-year-old nephew who wanted to listen to his usual range of favorite songs, so he popped in the mix CD of everything from Chuck Berry (Dylan was banging out the air guitar) to Yes to Talking Heads.
There's a lot of quality singing/harmony in the hair bands. Dokken had some brilliant harmonies, as did Winger. Some of those power ballads were very well sung.
(Can You Take Me) High Enough
, for example, had some nice voice blends. (notwithstanding Ted Nugent, but he didnt' sing, he just played the guitar.
Oh! Driving back from ATL I ran across a station that had House of Hair, Dee Snyder's syndicated show of metal, he was pimping Rocklahoma some big rockfest in Okalahoma with Warrant, RATT, Twisted Sister, Skid Row, Vince Niel and others.
I'll admit a lot of the appeal for me has nothing to do with the music. It's all wrapped up in rollerskates, disco lights, couple skates, thinking I was actually the "Youth Gone Wild" speculating madly about what exactly was up with "Mr. Brownstone."
But there is some good music in there. GnR and Aerosmith, I would say, are among the best.
Is now when I confess to my mad crush on Sebastian Bach?
Also, I could probably reconstruct the videos for "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Dr. Feelgood" shot-by-shot.
I loved me some hair bands. Warrant was my first rock concert (although that had more to do with being in Bumf**k, AK than anything else).

I always wanted to filk that -- make it a tribute to 80s big hair.
Whitesnake--hair band? Not that I know anything about them other than them having opened for Alice Cooper back in the day. I totally skipped them and showed up late for the main attraction.
I didn't know diddly about Aerosmith until they worked with Run DMC. Which was kinda the point, I bet. GnR came onto my radar when they started backing with what felt like an orchestra in comparison to the stuff that flew under my radar. I quite like those histrionics. Not sure where either of those events are in the music timeline.

Heroin.
Whitesnake--hair band?
Definitely. Quite the mane on David Coverdale, plus Tawny Kitaen in all the videos.
