There's a lot of quality singing/harmony in the hair bands. Dokken had some brilliant harmonies, as did Winger. Some of those power ballads were very well sung. (Can You Take Me) High Enough , for example, had some nice voice blends. (notwithstanding Ted Nugent, but he didnt' sing, he just played the guitar.

I'll admit a lot of the appeal for me has nothing to do with the music. It's all wrapped up in rollerskates, disco lights, couple skates, thinking I was actually the "Youth Gone Wild" speculating madly about what exactly was up with "Mr. Brownstone."
But there is some good music in there. GnR and Aerosmith, I would say, are among the best.

Whitesnake--hair band? Not that I know anything about them other than them having opened for Alice Cooper back in the day. I totally skipped them and showed up late for the main attraction.
I didn't know diddly about Aerosmith until they worked with Run DMC. Which was kinda the point, I bet. GnR came onto my radar when they started backing with what felt like an orchestra in comparison to the stuff that flew under my radar. I quite like those histrionics. Not sure where either of those events are in the music timeline.

Where/when did the term "Mr. Brownstone" come to mean that? I've always thought it dates back to the Velvet Underground's referencing buying heroin in a brownstone in "I'm Waiting for My Man" but I have absolutely no evidence for that.
