Spike's Bitches 34: They're All Slime and Antlers
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

That's a good cut and would frame her face beautifully. Her hair is probably not quite that fine.
OK, Hec, what do you recommend for someone with very naturally curly hair (me) who is not going to mess every day with product and all that? I generally tend to wash it and let the curls do as they will, but I'm curious as to what the pros recommend for curly hair.
Connie, when my hair was longer like yours, I didn't spend any time "styling" it -- I'd wash it, towel-dry it a bit, put in some product (it gives your curls shape and makes them stay curly), and go. Total "styling" time = 1-2 minutes, not counting washing.
Using product does not necessarily = spending any amount of time on your hair. I use 2 different products. Squish 'em in, comb through, arrange bangs, and go. Except when I have the extra few minutes to blow dry it. (I do have mostly straight, fairly low maintenance hair, though.)

Well, I do think curly haired people need to use product. That's not the same as a commitment to styling every day, but it keeps your hair from frizzing and allows the curls to form more. Curly hair has a tendency to get dry too, so it needs moisturizing.
Also (as I've pimped to Kate P.) it helps to go to a stylist who specializes in dry-cutting curly hair. The technique is very different than cookie-cutter hairstyling. Curly hair works best when each curl is cut at the proper place in the bend, and each strand is treated individually so that you can get the curls to nest with each other.
Most curly haired folks have suffered the dreaded horizontal spread of Roseannadanna hair because it was cut wet.
I'll try to find some pictures.
Teppy, what kind of product doesn't feel like product? I've had stylists swear "this won't feel stiff at all", but it always feels like "stuff in my hair", which I hate. I play with my hair a lot as part of my fidgetyness, and I'm very fussy about the feel of my hair.
I understand that I may be well into "have my cake and eat it too" land.
Where there are many quotation marks.

Really? This is because I can't bring myself to spend more than I would at Great Clips, isn't it.
connie, here are the Ouidad curl specialists. They have a lot of free advice on how to best treat curly hair, and their own product line which wouldn't give you stiff hair.
Redken has some smoothy stuff that is good for blow drying mine, but it's also good just to put a little in to keep curls shiny and smooth. It's not greasy, which is what I can't do with frizz ease (I mean it feels greasy in your hand, but if you're playing with your hair it doesn't feel greasy).
