Spike's Bitches 34: They're All Slime and Antlers

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Most curly haired folks have suffered the dreaded horizontal spread of Roseannadanna hair because it was cut wet.

Really? This is because I can't bring myself to spend more than I would at Great Clips, isn't it.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

connie, here are the Ouidad curl specialists. They have a lot of free advice on how to best treat curly hair, and their own product line which wouldn't give you stiff hair.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Redken has some smoothy stuff that is good for blow drying mine, but it's also good just to put a little in to keep curls shiny and smooth. It's not greasy, which is what I can't do with frizz ease (I mean it feels greasy in your hand, but if you're playing with your hair it doesn't feel greasy).

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Teppy, what kind of product doesn't feel like product? I've had stylists swear "this won't feel stiff at all", but it always feels like "stuff in my hair", which I hate. I play with my hair a lot as part of my fidgetyness, and I'm very fussy about the feel of my hair.

There's a lot that doesn't make your hair feel stiff or crunchy -- but it may make your hair feel thicker, which might = "stuff in my hair" feel.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

connie, I do want to promote the idea that you don't want to just change your hair, but change how you think about your hair. So put aside your product notions for a bit and try to be open to New Things.

A curly style gallery

A good curly hair resource

(You need a really gentle, non-detergent shampoo with curly hair, incidentally.)

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I've found that hand lotion works just as well as pomade/wax/etc for calming curls without feeling too sticky or heavy.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

Lotion tends to make mine dull and greasy, but I think I'm just a big ball of oil anyway, so just about anything added makes me feel like I've been swimming in Crisco.

No! Never!

maybe

What's a good non-detergent shampoo? I don't wash my hair every day, so I might be able to convince myself to spend a bit more than my wont.

Oh yeah, I have superdry hair, so it takes a lot to make it feel oily.

connie, you want something like Devacurl No Poo.
