information libertarian

Fiona, I don't know if you know her, but Sox is a current Philadelphia resident as well. I don't think she reads this thread.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

billytea, the husband will be working in Lansdale, and that's where they've been looking for accomodation as well. What is the neighbourhood like? Would another place nearby be a better bet?

I'm afraid I'm not so familiar with Lansdale specifically. However, I was living in the same county (Montgomery), and that I can recommend. They'll be within an easy drive of King of Prussia Mall, and at least one Trader Joe's, which has to be a good thing. Lansdale has a train station, so they shouldn't have much trouble getting around. They should also be able to avoid the Schuylkill Expressway for the most part (motto: Merge or Die), which will help them live longer.

Depending on what they're looking for, I think Upper or Lower Gwynnedd might be worth a look. They're close to Lansdale, but I think of a newer vintage. (The townships are generally older, which I tended to find to be a bit claustrophobic in design. The Gwynedds are probably more expensive, though.)

Finally, I found the following snippet on Wikipedia, which I offer without comment: "According to legend, Lansdale was once home to the mysterious H tree, which stood on a 12 foot hill. There were supposedly 3 H trees in the whole world, which were thought to be the entrances to hell. One would have to circle one of the trees six times, and jump off the cliff, and the ground would open up and take you to hell. The H tree was cut down to make room for housing development."

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

The H tree was cut down to make room for housing development.

Just think of all the lives that would have been saved had only they done this years ago. Sometimes the worst problems DO have simple solutions.

Lansdale has a hellmouth!

Thanks, billytea. I shall pass all of this on. (Except maybe the H tree bit.)

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

I really want more info on just what an H tree is. Two seperate trees/trunks that had boughs merge in an H? THE INTERNETS ARE LETTING ME DOWN (they keep wanting to talk about Hausdorff dimensions and Linux).

Edit: Ah hah! I was correct! [link] I am, however, unimpressed.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Context isn't required but I just read this on IMDB.

...which grossed more than $1 billion (£69 million) worldwide.

Wow, the US dollar really has plunged. That's almost Zimbabwean in nature. :-D

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Maybe they're not US dollars?

Ann, that's a ferret.

But a billion Australian or Canadian dollars is also a lot more than 69 million pounds.

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

Current exchange rate: 1 USD = 0.673 GBP

They obviously dropped a zero off of the £69 million figure.

Uh-huh, and no doubt it will be amended at some point. I just got a chuckle out of it.
