billytea, the husband will be working in Lansdale, and that's where they've been looking for accomodation as well. What is the neighbourhood like? Would another place nearby be a better bet?
I'm afraid I'm not so familiar with Lansdale specifically. However, I was living in the same county (Montgomery), and that I can recommend. They'll be within an easy drive of King of Prussia Mall, and at least one Trader Joe's, which has to be a good thing. Lansdale has a train station, so they shouldn't have much trouble getting around. They should also be able to avoid the Schuylkill Expressway for the most part (motto: Merge or Die), which will help them live longer.
Depending on what they're looking for, I think Upper or Lower Gwynnedd might be worth a look. They're close to Lansdale, but I think of a newer vintage. (The townships are generally older, which I tended to find to be a bit claustrophobic in design. The Gwynedds are probably more expensive, though.)
Finally, I found the following snippet on Wikipedia, which I offer without comment: "According to legend, Lansdale was once home to the mysterious H tree, which stood on a 12 foot hill. There were supposedly 3 H trees in the whole world, which were thought to be the entrances to hell. One would have to circle one of the trees six times, and jump off the cliff, and the ground would open up and take you to hell. The H tree was cut down to make room for housing development."
