He wasn't in the German army, he was in the Hitler Youth, which was compulsory for young men at the time.

Hah, jim, you're right, he was conscripted towards the end of the war. What a lousy pedant I am.
I think his girlfriend is very lucky. If only he had a better grasp of apostrophe use, I'd be tempted to fight her for him. Only I'd want to keep the speaker.

Oh, bloody marvellous. Yesterday 3 more bombs on tube trains and one on a bus in London, AND the police shoot some bloke dead (who had bloody well BETTER have been guilty as sin, and even if he was, I'm still very disconcerted that they just shot him dead). Today there's another frigging bomb in Egypt. Great. Fabulous. Yay.
I'm flying back to Blighty on the 26th/27th. Wonder what fun things will be happening then?
