With beds, they do. The thread seems to have disappeared from Apartment Therapy but lots of people were reporting that their platform beds were breaking after a few weeks/months of use.

I've had pretty good experiences, in the past, with IKEA. I dunno if they hold up for years and years but I think you get some good use out of them.My experience supports this. Actually the frame I have right now is from IKEA, circa 1990. And the current wobble is due to movers screwing it up. The really, really cheap stuff from IKEA tends to fall apart but the rest has held up quite well.
The only real problem I've ever had with IKEA is, with the cheap laminate stuff, you have to be super careful assembling it or you'll chip off the veneer. Both of the beds I bought, however, were solid wood and were nice and sturdy. (One of them was a loft bed.)
ETA: My end tables are from West Elm, ita, and I have no complaints. I just wouldn't buy a bed frame from them.

That's pretty craptacular.
I need to get off my duff, in a huge way.
Cupcakes! Other tasks!
Instead, I'm clearing off the TiVo. By watching it all.
Yeah, I'll third or fourth or whatever the good experiences with Ikea beds. I've never had one of their mattresses, though I've heard good things about them. (Also, if you have one of the beds with the wooden slats in the base, you can skip the box spring and spend more on the actual mattress.)
There's a new GA tonight, right?
Yes, FINALLY.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: You get at least what you pay for at IKEA. The really cheap stuff is cheap (but fine, really -- my $3 nonstick skillet has held up really well, it's just thin), and the more expensive stuff is decent.
shrift -- does your need for a bed mean that you're Actually Moved?
Not just yet. I should be all moved by next weekend, but the person moving out has done so. I want to try to get a bed delivered by then, if I can.
Just a matter of, like, finding a bed. OMG DECISIONS. Am I not making enough major decisions right now? Stupid adulthood.
Stupid adulthood.
I've said that many a time.
I just learned something from Miami Vice. You know how 555 numbers don't go anywhere? 1800 555 ones do. They blanked it out (video and audio) on the episode I'm watching, so I decided to call 1 800 555 LOVE. Oh, that's a real number, all right.
Oh, that's a real number, all right. Is calling the number like clicking on some of your links?
Kristin, do you like your bed frame? And is it this one?

That definitely sucks ass. Moving all by itself is one of those Big Life Stress things. New job, ditto. Both together? And THEN you have to all the other shit, TOO? Oy vey.
