Oscar noms are out: [link]
No major surprises there. I don't have big beef with the noms, although I wish Children of Men had received more nominations. (Editing, Cinematography and Adapted Screenplay are substantial awards, but I'd have liked Cuaron score a directing nom. Ah, well.) Plus, I have yet to see half the films nominated.
Yay, Little Miss Sunshine!
Edie Murphy is in, Jennifer Hudson is out.
An Inconvient Truth has a... Best Song nomination? Wha? Also, Al Gore can now introduce himself as "Al Gore, from the Oscar-nominated film, An Inconvenient Truth."

Huh. Maybe there was a wacky Al-does-Karaoke scene that I overlooked in the DVD extras.

Hudson got the best supporting actress nomination according to that link.
To give Babel a directing nom and not Children of Men is just wrong on EVERY FREAKING LEVEL IMAGINABLE.
And Borat up for Best Adapted Screenplay just makes my eyes roll.

Huh. So she did. Clearly I need to drink more coffee.
I enjoyed Dreamgirls OK, but I didn't think it was nomination-worthy for the big categories. It was glitzy and overdone and shallow, although the song numbers were fun. Murphy was clearly the best thing about the film, and Hudson was fun to watch, but Best Supporting Actress? Hmmm.

I thought it was leagues better than Chicago, so I assumed it would get nominated. (But Babel seems to be this year's Crash, picking up nominations I assumed would go to movies that didn't completely suck.)
I didn't realize how many original songs it had, though -- I thought "Listen" was the only new one. I want Inconvenient Truth to win that category, just because.
And Borat up for Best Adapted Screenplay just makes my eyes roll.
Yeah, what\'s up with that? Was there a Borat novel that I missed?
I still have to see
Dreamgirls and
Babel.
Yeah, what's up with that? Was there a Borat novel that I missed?
Also, it didn't have a screenplay! It was improv!

No, but there was
Da Ali G Show.

Ex-fucking-actly.
