Lindsey: Why--why did you... Lorne: One last job. You're not part of the solution, Lindsey. You never will be. Lindsey: You kill me? A flunky?! I'm not just...Angel...kills me. You...Angel... Lorne: Good night, folks.

Buffista Movies 5: Development Hell

A place to talk about movies--old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

An Inconvient Truth has a... Best Song nomination? Wha?

Huh. Maybe there was a wacky Al-does-Karaoke scene that I overlooked in the DVD extras.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Edie Murphy is in, Jennifer Hudson is out.

Hudson got the best supporting actress nomination according to that link.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

To give Babel a directing nom and not Children of Men is just wrong on EVERY FREAKING LEVEL IMAGINABLE.

And Borat up for Best Adapted Screenplay just makes my eyes roll.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Hudson got the best supporting actress nomination according to that link.

Huh. So she did. Clearly I need to drink more coffee.

I enjoyed Dreamgirls OK, but I didn't think it was nomination-worthy for the big categories. It was glitzy and overdone and shallow, although the song numbers were fun. Murphy was clearly the best thing about the film, and Hudson was fun to watch, but Best Supporting Actress? Hmmm.

I thought it was leagues better than Chicago, so I assumed it would get nominated. (But Babel seems to be this year's Crash, picking up nominations I assumed would go to movies that didn't completely suck.)

I didn't realize how many original songs it had, though -- I thought "Listen" was the only new one. I want Inconvenient Truth to win that category, just because.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

And Borat up for Best Adapted Screenplay just makes my eyes roll.

Yeah, what\'s up with that? Was there a Borat novel that I missed?

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I still have to see Dreamgirls and Babel.

Yeah, what's up with that? Was there a Borat novel that I missed?

Also, it didn't have a screenplay! It was improv!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Yeah, what's up with that? Was there a Borat novel that I missed?

No, but there was Da Ali G Show.

Also, it didn't have a screenplay! It was improv!

Ex-fucking-actly.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I'm assuming it was relatively guided improv, since Cohen had narrative goals he wanted to achieve with the whole thing, but unless there was a script that all or most of the people were adhering to (thereby removing what little point I think the movie had), yeah, I don't get it either.
