If the state has already created such a hostile environment for abortions that there are only 800 performed a year, access for most women in the state has already been cut off.
Most of the women had to travel all the way to the Twin Cities, where they had to endure the 24-hour waiting period - you know, go in, get all sorts of scare-tactic literature, and then come back the next day for the abortion. Most women couldn't afford the time off, the travel, or the hotel room.
Yeah. Fuck.
I know Digg's not quite a barometer of the world at large, but I'm stunned by the reactions to Bodyworlds. I totally get not wanting to see it, but the depth of emotion of some of the responses startles me.
I thnk the moral of the story is, "Come to Canada! We will kill your babies and marry your gays!"
So, apartment is clean. Girl is enroute. I called in sick to work this morning because I couldn't sleep last night, work up tired as hell, and after yesterday's meeting, my motivation to actually go into work was non-existant.
I was reading a book about the tactics of the Nazi Party in the Weimar Republic last night (which were, of course, mainly about consolidating executive power over legislative power and selling the general populace on the idea of scapegoating minorities) and breaking out in a cold sweat at some of the parallels employed by this new, weird Bushian branch of the Republican Party. Typical liberal stuff, I know, but lately I've been feeling more and more like Kurtz sometime before the story, gazing at the Heart of Darkness while it gazed back at him. I think I need a new job at the very least.

As opposed to "Come to our back-water polygamous town!" where they would do the exact opposite.
That sound you just heard? Was my cousin exploding in rage and frustration in Sioux Falls.
Send her an e and let her know that I'm channeling my gratitude in her direction.

I do not want to be this close to a "Gus sighting" and an abortion debate.
For the record ... it wasn't me. I wasn't there. However, I will take the deduction.
