And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Am I the only one that thinks this headline needed A LOT more clarification?

Bwahaha!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

In NYC news, I'm so excited! I smelled the maple syrup smell last night for the first time! I mean, I guess I should be scared or something? But whatever. [link]

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Turns out that the problem is not with Yahoo Mail, but the fact that there's a virus on the computer. BAH.

hip deep in pie

I would like to go on a sunny vacation! Sadly, I did that already this month.

But this would be in February. A month that surely deserves another vacation!

Gee, Dana, that's exactly what you need this week. Oy.

But this would be in February. A month that surely deserves another vacation!

It certainly is. Suprisingly, the life of an unemployed grad student is not all that condusive to jet-setting.

There's always a rub.

I think my friends who planted the seed of going somewhere warm and sunny and backing out now. I'll have to put them on the list.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I'd like to say yes, Sue, but sticking me in a metal tube for hours probably isn't the best idea right now. You could probably film it and shop it to networks as reality/horror TV, though.

We could call it "Slounging Towards Bethlehem" or something.

information libertarian

I just heard a job talk by a candidate for Scholarly Communications Officer that was all about Digital Rights Management technology and how it affects or will affect the academic landscape wrt Fair Use, archivability, and many other things. It was hard to read the room's response on the fellow - I think many people felt he was too tenative and lawerly, and wanted more of an advocate. amych, I wish you had been there so we could eat lunch and talk about it! Or, heck, I wish half of the techy and lawyerly Buffistas had been there, so we could all natter about it.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I think this can all be boiled down to, "We are doomed."
