May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I just heard a job talk by a candidate for Scholarly Communications Officer that was all about Digital Rights Management technology and how it affects or will affect the academic landscape wrt Fair Use, archivability, and many other things. It was hard to read the room's response on the fellow - I think many people felt he was too tenative and lawerly, and wanted more of an advocate. amych, I wish you had been there so we could eat lunch and talk about it! Or, heck, I wish half of the techy and lawyerly Buffistas had been there, so we could all natter about it.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I think this can all be boiled down to, "We are doomed."

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I wish I'd been there too, but I was too busy giving the students their happy buffet of very very controlled digital materials (which is the whole reason we need this position....) I'd love to hear more about it, though -- it's a search that hits a lot of my pet issues, and I can't get away to see these people.

If the people with the power have their way, yeah. The library biz is obviously concerned with somehow making sure that things are accessible.

Most of your department was there, so there's that. Can you get away for coffee this afternoon or something? I am so stupendously unmotivated today. And this would be, like, work-related and dealing with intellectual and scholarly issues and shit.

I'm on the other campus, and booked up with classes all day, so I doubt it. Le sigh. I hated to miss that even before I knew what the guy was going to be talking about, dagnabbit!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I've run Ad-Aware and the virus checker multiple times, and nothing is showing up, but my browsing still seems to be impaired. So now I don't know if it's the virus or the internet connection or the phase of the moon.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Did you update the virus etc. thingies?

Art Crawl!!!

Aimee, I'll talk Project Runway with you! I was so happy that Zulema was eliminated - she deserved to go. I was very worried about Nick being so down -- I hope that he can pull himself together for the next round. I thought that either Daniel or Andrae deserved to win this week - so I was happy with that result even though I was hoping that Nick could pull off a win and get Tarah back. Did you see the funny bonus videos on the PR website?
