Have there been any positive elements inserted into the original SW movies by Lame!George's tinkering?
I kind of thought the song in, uh, Return, in Jabba's palace wasn't too bad.

I like the jub jub song.
Do you ever catch yourself singing it at odd times?
I like the scene added to SW 1 with Han Solo talking to Jabba and climbing on his tail.
Oh, I hated that. Han Solo's motivation for getting off the planet in the original was partially because he'd just shot Greedo and was running from Jabba, which gave him a reason to keep running over the next movie. In the new version, he's forgiven for shooting Greedo and given an extention on his debts. Suddenly, his character has no good reason to personally be in a hurry, but is hurrying to help his passengers, which loses an important dimension to his character. He's one of the only multifaceted characters in the whole Star Wars universe. His selfishness guides his actions until he HAS to choose a selfless act. Hell, it's why he's an interesting hero: because he doesn't want to be.
Well, if they have taken it out and aren't going to put it back in, I for one, am going to start a movement to have it replaced with the song from "Fraggle Rock."
Dance your cares away! clap, clap! Worry's for another day!
The Jub-jub song always morphs into the Fraggle Rock song at some point...
Have there been any positive elements inserted into the original SW movies by Lame!George's tinkering? I'm only remembering the bad, because I'm invested in the originals (well, not yub yub).
I thought the new SFX of the Death Star explosion were pretty neat.

I liked this also, but mostly because I'd seen it somewhere before, either in the comic books or maybe some TV special (like the Biggs Darklighter scene), back before TESB came out. Jabba was a white guy in a fur poncho, but otherwise it was the same scene.
Wow...I didn't even know they'd taken the yub-nub song out, since I only watched the "extended/director's/re-imagined" version once.
It was kinda lame that they digitally modified the Death Star's destructo ray into a giant walkie-talkie, though.

I disliked it for the reason Hayden cites, but also, it doesn't look like Jabba the Hutt. I saw that movie, and I remember what he looks like, and that isn't it. It is sort of like having a cardboard cutout of an actor and pretending it is the real thing. Also, dude can move? What is the point of making him freakishly corpulent and self-indulgent, then?
Also also, it's supposed to be shocking when he's revealed in the yucky flesh in movie #3. If we know he's basically just Cookie Monster with the color on the fritz, he is not nearly so shocking.
It's the sort of change one makes because one can, and not because the story needs it, and therefore Lucas needs to STOP TINKERING.

Hmmm, not remembering that one... maybe I was still blind with rage over Greedo shooting first and missed it?

Damn straight.

Psst, Matt. It's a stolen South Park joke.
I kind of liked the new Mos Eisley also. But that's about it for good things to say.
