Download a free copy of the promotional cd that was given out at the premiere of the Flaming Lips documentary Fearless Freaks.
Done. Thanks, Jon.
I'm listening to Nouvelle Vague - bossa nova covers of 80s post punk (and punk) classics.
I got a copy of it today from a co-worker who thought I would like it. Can't wait to hear it.
Basically we're lucky to have anything like it.
Wrod. A friend who I gave it to over a year ago called me the other night to say he had suddenly started to listening to it due to it coming up on shuffle on his iPod and that he was stunned at how good it was and how long it had taken for him to get into it. He wasn't surprised at all that I was kind of ridiculously happy that he was that enthusiastic about it.
I'm excited to read the book eventually.
In continuing Sufjan Stevens news - the record company gave retailers permission to sell the copies that they were holding but that's it. They say it will be 3 months until they can re-release the album with new cover art. I've downloaded most of it and it's just stunning. Really, really good.
And now I can't find a store with a copy of it anywhere near me. It's certainly not that dire a request - but - if a fellow Sufjan-loving buffista goes to get a copy and can grab two - I'd happily pay for shipping and handling and love you dearly and forever. I *really* want a copy with the original cover art.

I'll swing by Amoeba and see what's available. Obviously these covers are going to be collectible like the first printing of Some Girls.

Uh-huh.

Gracias, sir! I am going to check a few places I haven't been able to get on the phone tonight but everyone is telling me that "shipments from the West Coast" were sent back before even arriving here. Ironic, given that we are the state the album is named after.
Hey David, when you stop by Amoeba, could you possibly see if you can pick up a copy of The Divine Comedy's
A Secret History
for me? All attempts to track it down locally have failed. I'd pay all costs involved, obviously. Er, not to be all demandy, but I do recall you mentioning a while back that Amoeba might have it...
Amoeba Report:
Tina, I have procured for you two (2) copies of Sufjan Stevens'
Illinoise
CD with the Superman cover.
(which, along with one for me prompted the registerista to comment: "You must really like that record.")
I think I need your Chicago address to send this. They were $12.98 each.
Kate, I have procured for you
a secret history
by The Divine Comedy. ($15.98) I probably need your current address too.
Sunil, I have no ponies. However, I could get you a record by The Ass Ponys if you really want.

Hey now, that sounds interesting.
ION, I got to the music store today and it was my favorite day ever- Grab Bag Day!!!!! They put ten cds with no jewel cases in a brown paper bag and sell you the lot for 97 cents. I typically buy five, as Grab Bag Day doesn't come about very often, and you never know when it'll be. So far, I pulled out Jamiraqoui, and I know there are two or three songs off that I'd meant to buy on iTunes, so you see, already the Grab Bags have almost paid for themselves! (Mind, there'll be a lot of shite in there, too. But it'll be fun shite.)
Hey now, that sounds interesting.
And
they're from Cincinnati.
Lilty, you really need to come to San Francisco and have fun. That's after you move to Somerville and have other fun.
My goal for
next
year is absolutely to come to California. And just think, this year my goal was only to get on a plane, and now, after Chicago, I'm going to Europe! Maybe next year I'll end up on the moon!
