U2 has "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" off the Pop album.

Erin McKeown's "Cinematic" has the line "she wore off like a prom dress." And it is a great song, besidews.

"I'm a Boy" by the Who isn't about dresses per se, but since Headcase Bill's sisters and mother put make up on him and he's lucky if he gets trousers to wear I've assumed he's wearing a dress. I think that's his complaint, but maybe they make him run around in (or maybe even out of) his underwear. Anyway, great song and a great song doesn't need much excuse.

A couple cool interviews on the radio today. First, Touré (filling in for Leonard Lopate) and Greg Tate. Although the website says they'll be discussing Tate's upcoming book on Hendrix they didn't. They started with Tate's Voice article "Hiphop Turns 30" and went from there. Tate, especially as a writer, isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I really dig him and can't wait to read the Hendrix book. I also wish he'd expand his "Electric Miles" articles into a book. Anyway, cool interview and it's a blast listening to Touré's reactions to the intro songs he picked for the show. He digs his own taste and God bless him for it!

Terry Gross interviewed Jason Moran today on Fresh Air. I have a couple of his albums, and I went to a simulcast he did from J&R for WBGO, and I wish I liked his music more. Don't get me wrong, I like his music, but I don't love it... and I wish I did. He's a really interesting guy and I love what he's trying to do, but it doesn't grab me like I want it to. The James P. Johnson tune that Terry plays during the interview is great but a lot of the time I'm left a little cold. A subject for further review as Christgau puts it. Always happy to listen to him talk, though.

Tate, especially as a writer, isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I really dig him and can't wait to read the Hendrix book.

I love Flyboy In the Buttermilk, and bought half a dozen when it got remaindered and gave them away to friends. His piece on Ornette Coleman's wardrobe choices was also fun. Plus his bafflement at King Sunny Ade's musicians all being serious Hank Williams' fans. (Hank is HUGE in West Africa.)
