It's pretty, but the Feelies have my vote.

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
I've been tempted to stick knitting needles in my ears to avoid listening to Joe Cocker.
Aww, DX. You don't even have any love for "Feelin' Alright"?
So. Iron & Wine. House of Blues. Packed. Sold out. Beyond packed. $4.50 for a can of beer, $7.50 for well whiskey and soda. I miss Kansas. But besides that - surprising and great. Sam is funny! Really funny and chatty and wants to interact with the crowd. I like him. He had a - count them - seven piece band and only did one number totally by himself.
I managed to finally get to the front of the stage (well, about four back) and it was well worth it. What the HoB lacks in sanely priced drinks it kind of makes up for in acoustics. Great band, his sister harmonized with him beautifully and he played everything I wanted to hear including a Steve Earle track off of Guitar Town (the name escapes me at the moment) and "Birthday" off of the Sugarcubes first album. Good show. And he collected a few CDs from the audience when it was over. Nice guy.
I'm just saying the song came out of a long tradition, much older than Elvis's version, and a tradition in which Lennon was steeped.
Sort of a rocked up version of a murder ballad, in other words.
I tend to ignore the lyrics - it's the sound of the song, and especially the singing, that makes it for me.
Tom! Thanks for the link. I hijacked it and now it is a pretty mp3 I can listen to over and over and over again. What a great version ...
Popstrology right now on Soundcheck. Per the website's terminology I seem to be a double Monkee -- i.e., born in the year of the Monkees (vaguely defined "dominant star of the year") with the Monkees at no. 1 when I was born (my "birthstar") -- with my birthsong "I'm a Believer". Not clear what it all means, but since the author was born a week before I was & we share the same popstrological chart maybe he'll explain it in a way that my feeble mind can grasp.
Lucky you. I'm from the Year of Gilbert O'Sullivan. My birthstar is Roberta Flack and song is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Two days later and I'd be a Chi-Lites baby. Two weeks and I'd be bound to the Staples Singers. O, cruel misfortune!
I am a double Gilbert O'Sullivan. I've never even heard of Gilbert O'Sullivan.
People here familar with Wing? so wrong and yet.
I heard him on TAL- or maybe not. It was on NPR on a Sunday. I was born in the year of Elton John, under Silver Convention (not that I know who that is, but I'm about to look up the song- "Fly Robin, Fly")
ETA- I meant the popstrology guy, not Wing
I've never even heard of Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Aren't you the lucky one? You'd know the song if you heard it, though.

She's already been on South Park, msbelle.
