"More Beer" -- No Fear
It's just "Fear"
No No, then?
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
"More Beer" -- No Fear
It's just "Fear"
No No, then?
No No, then?
No. No No.
I'm also fond of "Alcohol" by Beck
Also, "Beercan" by Beck.
Aw you guys, thanks.
I put the JLH version of 1B, 1S & 1B. I have no idea how I left off "Why Don't We Get Drunk And Screw" I found a few Flogging Molly that I like. 2 Versions of Whiskey in the Jar. Several Beer songs.
I will try to post a list when I get all the songs down and weed them out. I'm not going to the store to get cds- I'll likely just use iTunes (except for the Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys, which I may buy, take what I need and then donate to FE. They seem right up his alley).
Also, if I have a burner on the new Mac by then, I'll burn some for the F2F
How about Leonard Cohen's "Closing Time?"
Oh, how coult I forget The Replacements' "Here Comes a Regular"? My favorite bar song evah!
A few more suggestions:
Flipper - "If I Can't Be Drunk"
Cornell Hurd Band (I think) - The Lone Star Beer Theme
Replacements - "Beer for Breakfast" (edit - and, of course, I second "Here Comes a Regular")
Alejandro Escovado - "I Was Drunk"
Uncle Tupelo - "Punch Drunk"
Jason & the Scorchers - "Broken Whisky Glass"
I love "One for My Baby" (put the Sinatra version on my Buffistamix) and "Here Comes a Regular" but they're both real bummers. Not ideal party songs. If that doesn't matter there are a bunch of George Jones and Charlie Rich drinking -- or more accurately "I'm a drunk" -- songs that are really great. For more upbeat drinking songs, besides what's been recommended already (yay, Mojo! yay, Los Lobos!), I also suggest:
1) "Cocktails for Two," Spike Jones -- Prohibition is over, let's get loaded! Sung by the great Carl Grayson. In some secluded rendezvous [WHOOOPPPEEEE!!!]... And that's my favorite City slicker, Red Ingle, coughing up a lung in response to the lines, As we enjoy a cigarette/To some exquisite chansonette.
2) "White Lightnin'," George Jones -- Speaking of city slickers...
Well a city slicker came and he said "I'm tough"
I think I wanna taste that powerful stuff
He took one sweet slug and drank it right down
And I heard him moaning as he hit the ground
"Mighty, mighty pleasin, your pappy's corn squeezin'"
Wheeew . . . white lightnin'
3) "Let's Go Get Stoned," Ray Charles -- About drinking, not smoking. Written by Ashford & Simpson before they secured their spot in history with the Marvin & Tammi duets.
Alejandro Escovado - "I Was Drunk"
and his brother Mario's band the Dragons' -- "Three Steps from the Bar"
