I look more rad than Lutheranism

this is not the love-on-Steph thread.

::weeping::

S'okay -- I gotta go forage for dinner and then be social. All I really want to do is listen to this CD all night. I'm an obsessive little Teppycat.

And I gotta go to bed. It's midnight and tomorrow I have to get up and see Fay. ::tries to hide her slightly smug grin. fails::

It's rather gauche to follow your own post, but look at me, breaking rules.

Either Katie Melua or someone from Pop Idol/The X Factor is on cd:uk right now and absolutely butchering "So This is Christmas." I think I might just want to gouge my eyes out with her pointy boots.

But before This Random Bad Singer, The Darkness were being generally weird and Christmas-y at the same time, which was rather enjoyable.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

In a completely non-Christmassy note (except that I'd like the box set, hint, hint, hint): Tom Lehrer's The Elements, in flash.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

David, just got your message and replied. We had no internet connection yesterday.

I really really like the Garden State soundtrack. "New Slang" is one of my favorite songs that I discovered this year. "Let Go" is awesome too, and I've always loved "The Only Living Boy in New York". Good stuff. I didn't love the movie quite as much as most other people I know, though. I liked a lot, but it seems like everyone was comparing it to Lost in Translation and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, both of which I thought were superior.

My friend gave me Susan McKeown and Lindsey Horner's Christmassy/Solstice-y/wintry CD, Through the Bitter Frost & Snow, AIFG. I could listen to Susan McKeown sing just about anything, but the songs are excellent too. It's beautifully spare and dark, but also full of hope and grace, like the dawn after the longest night of the year. Highly recommended.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Reason number 134 of why I like the Pernice Brothers. From the Ashmont Records newsletter:

We wish you the best of whatever holiday you might be celebrating this month Festivus, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception sorry if I botched any spellings. Joe and I and the rest of the Ashmont/Pernice gang look forward to this time of year, mostly because we are given the opportunity to watch Rankin-Bass Christmas specials. I can’t say enough good things about Burl Ives' "Silver and Gold" singing snowman. Who doesn’t cry when they hear "There’s Always Tomorrow?" Charlie and I were weeping to that one just the other day. And no matter what your religious or political affiliation, I think we can all agree that Heat Miser and Snow Miser are the most happening pair of brothers this side of Bob and Joe Pernice.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Heh. I want to do xmas with the Pernice Brothers!

I'll bring my Pete and Pete xmas episode.

David, just got your message and replied.

Excellent. You'll be getting three mixes this week. Ho ho ho.

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

Let Go seems to be a Garden State favorite. have any of you heard Frou Frou's album, Details? it quickly became one of my favorite albums ever.
