Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
And Hounds of Love came out almost 20 years ago in 1985. Twenty. Years.
Gaaaah. If I remind Pete of that, his head will explode.
I'm afraid all the potential Kate Bush fans got snapped up by Tori Amos and Bjork.
But but but ... You can like all three! You should like all three!
(wanders off muttering 'kids today')
"New Slang" by the Shins is one of the best songs I've heard all year.
"The Soldiering Life" and "Song for Myla Goldberg" from the next album are just as pop, if not as great, and "The Tain" would be an anomaly in anyone's career. (At least, I hope it is.)
The Decemberists did a song about Myla Goldberg? Cool. Is it good? And does "The Tain" actually have anything to do with Irish mythology? Because if so, I've definitely got to hear it at some point.
Also, I'm standing squarely in joe boucher's corner regarding the "all good music sounds alike" theory.
Oh, and I love Kate Bush (and Tori Amos and Bjork as well), and I own both The Dreaming and Hounds of Love. But I actually find that I listen to The Sensual World most often, probably because she uses the women of Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares as her backup singers, to really beautiful and haunting effect.
Makes note to look for Kate Bush boxed set since just about everything I have is still vinyl.
Oh, and I love Kate Bush (and Tori Amos and Bjork as well),
Kate P. = Arty Girl
Does that mean I have to throw out my Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams CDs?
Doesn't everyone own The Dreaming and Hounds of Love?
And these are by whom?
And these are by whom?
Kate Bush.
I know, I know. I shouldn't blindly make those assumptions. But it's like me trying to wrap my brain around the idea that not everyone owns Disintigration by The Cure.
And these are by whom?
Kate Bush.
Ooops. I am familiar with The Sensual World. And....that's about it.
