I just think it's rather odd that a nation that prides itself on its virility should feel compelled to strap on forty pounds of protective gear just in order to play rugby.

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Makes note to look for Kate Bush boxed set since just about everything I have is still vinyl.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Oh, and I love Kate Bush (and Tori Amos and Bjork as well),

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Does that mean I have to throw out my Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams CDs?

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Doesn't everyone own The Dreaming and Hounds of Love?

And these are by whom?

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

And these are by whom?

Kate Bush.

I know, I know. I shouldn't blindly make those assumptions. But it's like me trying to wrap my brain around the idea that not everyone owns Disintigration by The Cure.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

The Decemberists did a song about Myla Goldberg? Cool. Is it good?

Catchy. Also featuring the refrain "funiculi funicula," which is a reference to an old song about trains, I think.

Up with the sun

Joe, thanks for your response. I think my idea was something that, while more or less true for me, falls apart if I try to turn it into any sort of Grand Statement, as many such things do.

Kate, I'm embarrassed to admit I did not even know Myla Goldberg was a real person. Now I'm going to find out Leslie Anne Levine was one, too. And I don't know if "The Tain:" is actually related to Irish Mythology, sorry. I do know it's twenty. freaking. minutes. long.

I think the only Kate Bush song I know is "Running Up That Hill."

I'm just full of Lack of Knowledge today.

Lyra, Myla Goldberg wrote Bee Season and has a new book out about Prague, I think. I enjoyed Bee Season quite a bit.

Also, your tag makes me giggle every time I read it.
