Frankenbuddha, were you at the Swans show at the Somerville Theater a few years back? I remember it being like a pressure cooker in there, but I think it was more a result of the music than any actual possibility of violence from the crowd.
No, it was at the late, unlamented club that Aerosmith opened (Mama Kins? I think) on Landsdowne street. The vibe I couldn't quite place whether it was the music or the crowd. I tend to think it was a symbiosis. If nothing else, the Swans were as INTENSE a band as I've ever seen. Not the loudest or the most crowd-rousing (for lack of a better term), but there was this huge VIBE in the room that promised explosion.

Playing right now? The Boo Radley's Giant Steps which is, as Jim said, a brilliant guitar pop record. Got it for $5.99, and it looks like it might be OOP. But yay me for scoring the excellent music for low cost.
I opted for The Best of The Church on Buddha (huh?), and glad I did. It has a fair bit from their earlier records when they were rougher and sound somewhere between Duneidin and Lloyd Cole.
Got Isn't Anything which I am just exploring. I am happy to report it is Nice Price-d at a very affordable $8.99.

Better than Ezra are better live than I could ever have imagined. Any show during which they bust out in verses of Supertramp, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, and Blue Oyster Cult in the middle of songs is a show worth seeing.
