Basically you're saying you've stumped yourself?
Ha! If I have room for the last optional category. I know exactly what's going on it! (kind of an obvious choice actually)
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Ha! I now have Tommyrot's CD! Am I the first to get one?
Cool! Usually I'm Mr. Procrastination, but I got it in the mail yesterday.
Erin, do you want me to email you the Word doc I used to create the liner notes, cover, etc?
Tommyrot, thanks, but I just typed it in, and I'm listening to it RIGHT NOW. AIFG. I already had five of the songs, which is making me feel happy and in with the in crowd.
For the record, the songs were (whitefonted for those wanting a surprise):
Step into my office, baby
Ed is Dead
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
How Soon is Now? (the taTu version, natch)
and Bonnie and Clyde
And I was going to make a last minute addition to my CD but then discovered that EMusic has taken the song away, which means it is also gone from my hard drive ... I'm not sure how that works. It seems evil.
Huh. 22 Songs and I''ve still got over 7 minutes left. That's unusual for me since I tend to favor longer songs. I'll ponder choices for the unrequited love song and the song I like just for the title while I take my lazy-sunday-afternoon shower.
Shower complete. Missing two songs chosen. CD length = 79:59 (with 2 seconds between most tracks). On to the liner notes!
I want points for being Most Musically Clueless Person of All Time
This song on a Françoise Hardy album I've been listening to since 1980, La Rue des Coeurs Perdus, is an Elvis cover.
Who knew?
Apparently everybody except moi.
I ended up switching my no-words-in-the-title song at the last minute. The Butthole Surfers pictogram tune just wasn't cutting it and I thought of a song by a great new band that fit well. Total length is still within a few seconds of 80 minutes. And I just finished the liner notes (I'll post them somewhere soon). I should be able to get the CD out tomorrow.
3) A song from the first album, cassette, or CD (whichever was first or the oldest that you still have access to) that you purchased for yourself. Banana Splits "I Enjoy Being a Boy" This was on a 7" EP that I got by sending in some box tops from Kellogs cereals. My original copy was tossed at some point during my childhood, but I found a replacement many years later at a used record store.
Oooh, cool. My brother and I sent for a Banana Splits single back in the day, perhaps that very one.
Mary Lou Lord "Some Jingle Jangle Morning" Back in the late 80's I knew MLL as a street musician who'd do Bevis Frond, Daniel Johnston, and Richard Thompson covers. She had eclectic tastes so when I heard her do this song I assumed that it was another obscure cover. I was shocked (shocked I tells ya!) when she told me that she had written it.
Love love love that song. Supposedly it's about her and Kurt Cobain. (Wasn't Ms. Lord the one Courtney Loved attacked on stage, or am I confused?) Oh, and is this the accoustic single version, or the album version. I only have the single version as a 45.
Twice she was supposed to play Chicago, but each time she cancelled to go back into rehab or something.
Go Jon!!. [ahem]
Supposedly it's about her and Kurt Cobain. (Wasn't Ms. Lord the one Courtney Loved attacked on stage, or am I confused?)
I believe the attackee you're thinking of was Kathleen Hanna, but yeah, MLL did have a fling with Kurt before he was married, and that song is about it.
It's the album version. I was hoping to find the acoustic version she did on WMBR, which is where I first heard her do it, but I couldn't find it amongst my disorganized cassettes.
