If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

On a totally other note, and I suspect only Hec will care, but Wendy James has a new record (her first since 1993) on the way: >[link]

You've got to admire a gal who wrote to Elvis Costello begging him to write songs for her new album because nobody takes her seriously - and then he sent her an album's worth.

I wish I could legitimately name my band Trout Mask Pinafore.

This

As the captain, Eleanor Friedberger goes down with the ship and her blueberries

cracked me up.

That pitchfork article plugs "Lost on the grooves" as well as her NMH book. Cool!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

"Dig it up" was on the Hoodoo Gurus' 1984 debut album Stoneage Romeos.

Which also has one of my favorite 3-minutes minus songs, "I Wan't You Back"

I've been spending the morning catching up on some recent purchases. Eno's first four albums? Still the BOMB. The new Wilco? Really fucking good. The latest David Sylvian? Like the Japan reissues, sublime. Next up, the new Cure and Beastie Boys (but possibly not until after the weekend since I am heading up to Maine at some point, and stereo access is limited).

I thought so!

Yeah, that record is a pop masterpiece. As is the followup that Jon favors, Guitars on Mars.

Which was the first song I played during my two week 20th anniversary extravaganza.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I'm touched by the I Want You Back love. And the video, IIRC, has dinosaurs. Y'know, besides the paisley shirts.

Oh, I'd forgotten about the video. It was hilarious! Low on the budget, but high on the charm.

My only complaint with the first album was their hair. What were they thinking? Luckily they let their hair down (literally) by the time Mars came out. I remember interviewing Brad Sheppard a couple of years later. I asked about the hair but he seemed too embarrassed to even discuss it.

You interviewed Brad Shepherd? That's pretty cool. Of course, he kept the hair long after the others bowed to, well, I'm not sure really. The reality of the Australian summer perhaps.

Ok, now playing some Gurus, Leilani to be specific.
